54. NEW YORK CRITICISM---WEEK OF MAR. 18TH, 1907. VILLIERS & LEE---Usual three show Sister act. Disagreeable voices, but dancing good and got a fair amount of applause. Only a mediocre act. 11 minutes in one. ASHER & PATTERSON---Colored man and woman in singing and dancing act. Man is a very good Comedian and sings well. Woman only ordinary. Fair three show act. 13 minutes in one. L. H. POOLE---Magician. New Comer to the East. Good looking young man with several new tricks. Got more applause than any Magician I have had for some time. Neat refined, and corking good bell trick. Cheap Act. Three shows. 12 minutes in one. WALDORF & MENDEZ---Two men Comedy Acrobats. Very good three show act.The Comedy man is quite funny, and their finish is splendid.Full Stage 10 minutes, Short close in one. VAN CLEVE WENTWORTH & "PETE" in well known "Mule" act. This is a great act for this house, and had the audience screaming from start to finish. I was sorry to lose the Le Brun Opera Co., but this made a corking good substitute. Sidney GRANT---Advance applause. Well known singer and monologist who made his usual big hit. Nice refined act. 19 minutes in one. FITZGIBBONS-McCOY TRIO---Big advance applause. It is seldom this house hears the laughter and applause that Fitzgibbons got on his parodies. The whole act is, I know, the broadest of low Comedy, but from the way the audience took it, they evidently preferred it much better than all the expensive Acts I have had. Six re-calls. 17 minutes, full stage. DOHERTY SISTERS---Another big hit. The rapid fire action of these girls got big applause. The imitations of "La Domino Rouge" and "Geo. Cohan also went very well. 15 minutes in one. CRESSY & DAYNE----Big advance applause in their old sketch "The New Depot." This sketch to my idea is as funny as any that Cressy has written, and the touches of pathos are delicious. I was very much afraid of such a quick repeat for these people, but they went as big as ever. 23 minutes, full stage. spot, but at the last moment had to take this act. It fell with a horrible "Thud." This act might go in the middle of the bill, but is no good for a closer. The Vehicle is no good for Kelly, and , weighing salary and applause the Fitzgibbon act is worth ten of this. KINETOGRAPH---Fights of All Nations. Good interesting film. The Yawner. Very funny. CUTS----This looks like a "queer" show on paper on account of all the Comedy acts, but the audience evidently had a great time for laughter and applause were continuous with the exception of Kelly's act. Lindsay Morison.
