58. CLEVELAND SHOW WEEK, MARCH 18TH, 1907. (F. Brandt) NETTIE CARROLL: Queen of the wire, assisted by a man. This is a very clever little woman, very shapely and well dressed. Very good opening act. 6 minut Full stage. WAIT #I, four minutes. HENNINGS, LEWIS & HENNINGS: Offering a condensed musical comedy, entitled, "Mixed Drinks". Two men and a woman. Musical Knock-about comedy. Some singing, dancing and piano playing, which was fair. This act has to be watched as there are several cuts which you will find below. Act did not go well at all to-day. 17 minutes. Interior Close in one. 2 Minutes. WAIT # 2, Two minutes. A, O. DUNCAN: America's Representative Ventriloquist. Act very well known on Circuit and am sorry to say that Mr. Duncan has very little new material. He uses the same old fore figures and mostly all of his old gags, including the telephone and cabinet. for which he uses the same dialogue he has used before that I know of. Act went only fair but received quite a bit of applause with his imitations. Interior 19 minutes. Close 2 minutes in one. NICK LONG & IDALINE COTTON: " My Wife's Diamonds". I was in hopes that this play would do much better here on this trip, as they have never scored very heavily in Cleveland. The act is very similar to that of Gardner Crane's act as it deals with the stealing of a diamond necklace, and instead of calling on the servants and employees of the hotel, in Gardner Crane's act, he calls on the German Girl, Italian Boy, and the french dressmaker. These characters are taken by Miss Cotton. Her German dialect is unusually bad and only spoils this caracter. The Italian Boy is very good and the french dressmaker is only fair. Mr Long plays the part of the husband, and ony does one character of the Italian. The act is far from being a hit and went very flat this afternoon, receiving hardly any applause at all at finish. 22 minutes. Interior. SCOTT & WILSON: Acrobatic Comedians. Up to this spot this act received the most applause, and went very well. 10 minutes in one. THE EXPOSITION FOUR; Three Alexander Bros. and Brady. Musical Experts. Four men, three men working straight and one black face comedy. This is an unusual good musical act and received applause for every number they did. They do a little of everything. Playing on Xylaphones, horns, chimes, also do quartette work and dance. Make four distinct changes of costume. One of the biggest hits of the act was the playing of two cornets at one time. 15 minutes. Palace. three minutes in one. WAIT # 3, THREE MINUTES. JOSEPH HART'S PANTOMIME COPANY. In " Polly Pickle's Pets In Petland". This act has been thoroughly described before, and thoroughly agree that it is one of the most novel acts I Have ever seen. While it did not go as well as I expected, the show ahead of it probably had a good deal to do with same. Up to this time we have already had three waits, which makes the audience very nervous, especially as the show is running late. There is hardly any doubt but what it will go much better the rest of the week, and should draw us some money, providing the forepart of the show don't kill it. 22 Minutes. Special Set. MOSHER, HOUGHTON AND MOSHER: Unparalleled Cyclists. 2 Straight and one comedy. This to my mind is one of the best bicycle acts in the business, and considering that they did not go on until 4:30, when our audiences are usually leaving the Theatre, they certainly made the hit of the show, and got the most applause at finish. 15 minutes. CUTS: Why don't you show them to me the marks? I could not see what he was getting at, referring to spanking. This is the first show we have had in about four months that we have had any waits in, and we did not have only one but four, which only made the show go very bad, and without a doubt is going to do us a lot of harm, as the house is almost sold out. We reallly have but one act that works in one, and of the three that close in one, Mr Duncan is the only one who gives us time enough to set the following act. Hennings, Lewis & Hennings, only did two minutes also the expositiojn Four do more time and if Hennings, Lewis & Hennings cannot do more will have to make Duncan work in the same set, which will do away with two waits.
