Boston Show, Week of April 8m 1907. (Carl D. Lothrop) (Mon. Apr. 8--Night Show.) Seymour's Dogs. On at 6.30, 17 min, full stage; 3 shows. A corking good dog act for the money. Think he could hold an early spot in the 2-a-day houses by chopping his act down to about 12 min. As it is now, he is particularly valuable for the 3-a-day houses on account of the length of time occupied. Can do 20 min. if necessary. Inman. On at 6.47, 10 min, in 1; 3 shows. Thoroughly all right at the price. A good contortion act of of the stereotyped style. Stereopticon. On at 6.57, 9 min. Showing views of Russia and Siberia. Will La Belle. On at 7.06, 12 min, full stage; 3 shows. Well known comedy juggler. Can hold an early place almost anywhere. He has a woman working in the act with him who is rather amateurish at present. Lillian Ashley. On at 7.18, 12 min, in 1; 3 shows. Lillian's voice is anything but flute-like. She makes a neat appearance. I have my doubt about her holding the number two spot satisfactorily in the 2-a-day houses. Valveno Bros. On at 7.30, 9 min, in 1; 3 shows. This act is as good value for the money as anything I know of. On my recommendation they are prepared to work in 1, and can hold a position as good as three or four anywhere. Their ability to do their act in 1 adds greatly to their value, to my mind, as anything in 1 that breaks away from the usual singers, dancers or monologists is thoroughly appreciated by our audiences. I hope it will be possible to give these boys a blanket contract for next season. Kelly & O'Brien; or, as they are known in some cities, Kelly & Kent. On at 7.39, 18 min, full stage. This act is always a hit in this house, and they scored very heavily today. It is a pity that I cannot give them a spot about 8.30 Burt & Bertha Grant. On at 7.57, 16 min, in 1; 3 shows. An excellent coon act, their dancing finish being particularly strong. If they could sing a little better, they would be as good as any black act that could be mentioned. Fred Lennox & Co. On at 8.13, 23 min, full stage. Presenting the George Ade sketch, "On His Uppers". Lennox did very well here to-day, better even than I expected. With a few slight changes in the sketch, and with a new woman, I think that this act at $250 would be a find, for Lennox certainly makes good and George Ade's name is worth a lot in advertising. The sketch itself is full of bright lines. 20 min. "Cream Eating Competition", corking good short comedy film. "Constructing a Fishing Boat (France)", rather interesting. "His First Ride", another good comic. Comment. A really great show, one of the very best of the season, and one that is sure to make a lot of talk. Cuts:- Kelly & O'Brien. Spitting in face, and accompanying lines and business. Fred Lennox & Co. Requested not have butler's make-up so ghastly. Cut "I ordered liver".
