UNION SQUARE CRITICISM----WEEK OF APRIL 8th, 1907. OVERTURE----A trip around the World by C. Puerner. A good descriptive piece that got big applause. 9 minutes. THREE MADCAPS---Three fair looking girls in a sister act of the usual sort only a little better than usual. A lively little act for an opener which got quite a little applause. Three shows. 10 minutes, full stage. DORA RONCA---Very pretty and nicely dressed young woman in Violin solos. She plays beautifully and has a great tone. Big hit. This act ought to be "covered" at once. Three shows. 10 minutes in one. O'CONNOR, SAUNDERS & CO. in a Comedy sketch called "The Thoroughbred and the Lady." This act is a fall down. On account of playing three shows they lost their comedian, and the substitute is very bad. Act failed to score in any way. 17 minutes, full stage. ALABAMA COMEDY FOUR--- Four Colored men. Very good act. Good voices and comedy. More than good. Three show act. Change clothes several times and general good work. 16 minutes in one. WILLA HOLT WAKEFIELD---Woman with remarkable personality who "talks" several songs and plays her own accompaniments. Very artistic and refined act that went very well. Her enunciation is perfect, and she held the audience spell-bound. Good value. 12 minutes in 2 1/2. Two shows. THREE HICKMAN BROS. in "Who Stopped the Ferryboat." Very good act for this house. Good wholesome comedy that kept the audience in a continuous scream. The little fellow is a wonder. Would make good in any place. 14 minutes, full stage. BASQUE QUARTETTE---Three men and a woman in costume who sang three popular Operatic Selections. These people were a regular "riot." The best singing act on the circuit, and will be only too glad to get them again. 16 minutes in one. BERT LESLIE & CO--Too well known for much comment. The usual scream from start to finish. The audience never seem to tire of this sort of act, and Leslie certainly is the best of all of them. The new woman is a very good little dancer. 23 minutes, full stage. WINSOR McCAY the well known cartoonist "Silas." Another hit, but not worth the money for this house. His work is very artistic, and I know his name is worth a good deal, but he did not get applause worthy of his salary. 19 minutes in 2 1/2. not fill this spot by any means, and cheated by only doing 10 minutes this afternoon. From my Sunday experience with him I know he would be a fall down. Never again. 14 minutes in one. BESSIE VALDARE TROUPE---Six women and a man in a very good bicycle act. Neatly dressed and general good work. Changes in costume neat and novel. Good closing act. 12 minutes, full stage. KINETOGRAPH-----Oh! That Dirty Boy. Funny. The Bottle Industry. Very interesting film. His First Ride. The funniest Pictures I have had for some time. NOTE---- Great show, and will draw big money. Outside of O'Connor, Saunders And Tenley all the acts made good, and the audience were more than pleased. Lindsay Morison.
