Boston Show, Week of April 22, 1907. (Carl D. Lothrop) (Mon. Apr. 22--Night Show.) Miles & Nitram. On at 6.22, 15 min, open full stage; close in 1; 3 shows. A fair 3-a-day act, in which Miles in his Irish dancing is the feature. Would get by in number two spot in some of the smaller houses. Stereopticon. On at 6.37, 13 min. Leonard & Drake. On at 6.50, 12 min, in 1; 3 shows. Not a bad act by any means. Their finishing song and animal imitations going very well indeed. Would not do any damage in an early spot in the small cities. Siefried. On at 7.02, 9 min, full stage; 3 shows. A one-legged acrobat, who does some remarkable jumping. An act that is bound to improve, as he lacks showmanship at present. Would make a good opening act almost anywhere. Hill & Hill. On at 7.11, 14 min, in 1; 3 shows. Above the average of coon acts. All right for the money. Their dancing is very good. Overture. 7.25, 11 min. Borani & Nevaro. On at 7.36, 16 min, full stage. They did better today than I expected from the reports I have read of them recently. In fact, they make thoroughly good in this spot and could have gone further down the bill. Did not need their close in 1, which ran about 3 minutes. Murray Sisters. On at 7.52, 12 min, in 1. Two very good-looking and very well-dressed girls who are good singers. Their vocal work, both in solos and duets, is thoroughly all right. I regret that I cannot use them further down the bill. Edouin & Edwards. On at 8.04, 26 min, full stage. Presenting "A Bachelor's Dream". It seems to me that this sketch is too long drawn out. I think it would be greatly improved if it could be condensed to about 18 min. However, I do not suppose that I shall ever see my wish gratified, as Miss Edouin states that she is going to rest for a season, and is to present a single act the following season. If she does so, I venture to predict that she will more than make good, for I consider her a much cleverer entertainer than Katie Barry and a half-dozen other headliners whom I could mention. Leona Thurber and Her Black Berries. On at 8.30, 12 min, in 1. About the best pick act we could play. Willis Family. On at 8.42, 20 min, full stage. Capital musicians, but they still lack stage presence. I do not think that I would care to hold them over for two weeks again. she can do, four hundred for the newspaper notoriety she has had, is about the way I would split her salary. I think we have several comediennes who are far cleverer than Miss Levey. I know for a fact that Nora Bayes and Trixie Friganza both made higher scores here than she. Notoriety is what has made her a headliner. Four Casting Dunbars. On at 10-o'clock, 10 min, full stage. One of the best of the casting acts, the comedy introduced adding considerably to its value. Thoroughly all right as a closing act. Kinetograph. On at 10.10, 20 min. "Amateur Photographer", good comedy film. "Bob Sleigh Running", "Ski Racing", "Spot at the Telephone", held over from last week because they made good last week and also they were far superior to the films sent me for this week. Comment. This show lacks novelty, and while it plays well, does not move with the snap and swing that I like to have. Business this week will depend on the weather and on Ethel Levey's ability to make good as a drawing-card. No cuts.
