(2) Dora Ronca. On at 8.22, 12 min. in 1; 3 shows. "The Gipsy Violinist". She did surprisingly well this afternoon. This is one reason she was moved down three numbers for tonight. While I do not think that her tone is as true as it might be, still she pleases her auditors and is playing four numbers. Makes an attractive stage appearance. McKenzie & Shannon. On at 8.34, 22 min; set made in 2, but it is so elaborate that it might as well be full stage, when it comes to economizing time in making the setting and clearing. This act did not make the hit that I hoped it would. It seems lacking in action and comedy. The idea is novel, however. Miss McKenzie and Mr. Shannon both sing very well, and their "company", in the person of the boy who plays the bootblack, is clever. I see no reason why this act will not develop and become worth the money we are paying it. As I have said before, I think it needs faster action and more humor. Martin Bros. On at 8.56, 14 min, in 1; 3 shows. A good enough xylophone act for anybody's money. There are very few acts getting $125 that can hold this spot in the house. Cressy & Dayne. On at 9.10, 22 min, full stage. Playing "The New Depot". The same old hit. One of the best things Cressy has ever done. We have heard many expressions of regret from our patrons over the fact that this is advertised as their farewell engagement in Boston vaudeville. I sincerely trust that something will happen so that they will be back again with us next season. Howard & North. On at 9.32, 20 min, in 1. Another case of renewed success. I doubt if they ever went better in the house than they have today. This town never seems to tire of them. Pony Ballet. On at 9.52, 8 min, full stage. Scored very strongly. Accorded a fine reception and took three bows at their finish. Could have taken another one, without being guilty of stealing it. Dunedin Troupe. On at 10 o'clock, 16 min, full stage. Played them in the same set as the Ballet, to avoid a wait. This act is immense. I have never seen better bicycle work, particularly the single riding of one of the boys. They are also good tumblers and do some novel work on a wire. There is something doing every minute they are on the stage. Kinetograph. On at 1.16, "Lost in the Alps". This film is rather fakey in spots, but it pleased today's audience very much. "Forty Winks, or a Strenuous Dream", very good comic. 142
