UNION SQUARE CRITICISM, WEEK OF JULY 15th, 1907. BERNIER AND STELLA. This is only a fair act. The man works very well, and has a very good voice, but the girl is bad. She has no voice at all, her dancing is as bad as her voice. 10 minutes in one. JOSIE ALLEN. This girl has a fair act, and has improved very much since I last saw her. She ought to make good in any of our houses about third or fourth on the bill. 11 minutes in one. JOSEPHINE NEWMAN AND COMPANY. I hardly know why I should be the only one to take all the new acts. This act played here a year ago, and at that time it was very poor. Chas. Fitzpatrixks I believe sent the act down here more to break it in. I don't care to break those acts in unless I see them first. This is a bad act, but I will let them finish out the week, and I think it will improve during the week. 13 minutes, full stage. DELMORE AND ONEIDA. This act always makes good, and is one of the best three a day acts we have on the bill. It is very valuable for the fact it works in one all the way through. The woman does some very clever work on the pole. Went very well. 10 minutes in one. GAY MacLAREN. This woman was somewhat a disappointment this afternoon, as she was very nervous. this being the reason she did not go so well. Her imitations are not bad, and she has a very fair voice, and I am in hopes by to-night she will go much better. Her best imitations were that of Eddie Foy and David Warfield, and each of them got a good hand. Went very well. 14 minutes in one. CARNALLA AND EDDIE. These boys do a very good act. Both good acrobats. The comedian is a very clever fellow, and tries very hard to imitate Rice of Rice and Prevost with his falls. There is plenty of good comedy, and about sixth or seventh on any bill they would make good. Went very well. 16 minutes full stage. THE KEMPS. This is a very good colored act. The woman has a fair voice, and wears some very pretty costumes and dances very well. The man is very good and is very funny, and is a good dancer. As usual all the coon acts down here generally go big. Went very well. 17 minutes in one. from the start to the finish. This is one of the best comedy acts I have ever seen. There is plenty of action and plenty of life all the way through. Miss Arden and Mr. Abel are splendid, and their support is very good. Went very big. 24 minutes full stage. KEEFE AND PEARL. This is a very good act. Keefe is very well known for his yodling which is very fine. Mr. Pearl is a very good harpist, and received several encores in one of the numbers. Comedy in the act does not amount to much. Went very well. 15 minutes in one. THE BIG SHOW. This was a disappointment to me, and I was forced to close it. 26 minutes, full stage. KINETOGRAPH. The Drunkard Will Drink. Very interesting. The Bandits. Good. Who's Hat is it? Very funny. Reed Albee.
