UNION SQUARE CRITICISM---WEEK OF AUG. 19th, 1907. EVELYN SISTERS. A very fair opening act. Two very well dressed girls not bad looking. Their voices are nothing extra, but they redeem themselves on their dancing which is good. Went fair. 8 minutes in one. Three shows. ROBERT NOME. This is a very good act. A very clever whistler, and gives several imitations on different instruments, all of which were good. A very good act for about $60.00 and three shows and second on the bill. Went very well. 14 minutes in one. Three shows. HOYT AND MARION In "The Dutch Toreador." This is only a fair act. The woman is poor, but the man is the worst comedian I ever saw. To me he is about as funny as a funeral. They do a burlesque melo-drama which is good. Went fair. 17 minutes, full stage. Three shows. EDWARD GRAY. This fellow is very clever, and has a lot of new material and always makes good. Went very well. 17 minutes in one. Three shows. THE GREAT WESTIN. A very clever impersonator. All of his characters are very good. I think he is the only man ever impersonated Queen Victoria, and he does it exceedingly well. Went very well. Consider it a very good act. 12 minutes, full stage. Two shows. ANNA DOHERTY. I was very much pleased with Miss Doherty, as I thought she would be a little nervous on account of working alone. She sang three songs, and there is plenty of comedy in these songs. She keeps the audience laughing alll the time. The act is somewhat on the order of Eva Tanguay, but of course it is not to be compared. Cosidering all this for about $100 she ould be all fight, and would make a big hit. Went big. 12 minutes in one. DANNY MANN & CO. In "Mandy Hawkins." I was very much disappointed in this act, not that it no good, for it is, but it is a little too serious for this house. Some very pretty stage setting. Mr. Mann is a very clever performer, and if there was a little comedy to kill the monotony of so much pathos it would be all right. I was compelled to put this act up on the bill last night, as in its present position, it would kill the comedy after the best part of the show. Went very well. 22 minutes, full stage. The Smoking Chimney. Funny. The Poor Little Mites. Good. The Servant Hypnotist. Funny. NOTE. I must say that I am very much pleased with my show this week. Every act is good, and there is plenty of comedy from the start to the finish. The only fault I had to find is with Mr. Mann, on account of their being no comedy in his act. The show went very well, no hitches or waits. Reed Albee,
