2. pleasing villain, but in the latter part gives the impression of infamy, so that he works up the crowd to a fine climax. Mr. Hawtrey's support is of the best. The finish was big, with four curtain calls. Press very flattering on the act this morning. ANNA ELIZABETH KELLY. Vocalist. 14 min. in 1. Contralto. A local artist. Big advance applause. Very pleasing personality. An artist who understands her limitations, singing with a good deal of charm and sweetness. Audience was well pleased with her work and gave her frequent applause. PAULTON & DOOLEY. European Comedy Cyclists. 14 min. F. S. One works straight and the other, tramp comedy. The work of both men is very expert but did not go as strongly as it would, had not the same tricks been performed many times before by both men and women on this stage. Nevertheless the comedy is the strong part and kept the audience in good humor, giving the act a good closing hand. LONEY HASKELL. Monologues. 16 min. in 1. He uses a good deal of antique material, varied with much that is new. Has a happy delivery and the audience liked him. Went off to a good hand. PHANTASTIC PHANTOMS. Headed by Hilarion and Rosalie Deballas Assisted by Samuel Mint. 16 min. F. S. This is a novel act, although rather monotonous in tone on account of having only the black drop and white light. There are nine people in the cast. Six pretty girls who dance quite well, and the acrobatic dancers who get good applause for their work, which is well deserved. The audience seemed pleased and gave it a good hand. The skeleton dance at the finish is one of the wierdest effects imaginable. SPERRY & RAY. Presents a Bit from Life "The Trials of Billy Butts" 17 min. F. S. This is a very pretty little act, and could hold any spot in the 3-a-day section with credit. Sperry plays the part of genial tough, Miss Ray that of an amibitious country girl who becomes an heiress. The lines are good, but the best part is the singing of Miss Ray, so good that it merits a strong hand. These people are worthy of a good opportunity. KINETOGRAPH. No. 1. A Splendid travel film. No. 2. Such an excellent series of a kind so difficult to obtain that it was held over another week. No. 3. An amusing comedy film. ZANO. Magician. 13 min. in 1. A little more clever than the ordinary magic act, but he is handicapped by a lack of the English vernacula. Received considerable applause. would make a good opener. MAY SISTERS. "The Red Domino Girls". These little girls are very young and prettily costumed, and will doubtless develop into something later. At present, however, they cannot do any more than fill a very obscure spot in the 3-a-day section, as they lack development of voices and dancing skill as well as stage experience, and are not strong enough to be booked for a house like this. Not to be recommended for extended booking.
