GRAND OPERA HOUSE PITTSBURG, PA. AUGUST 28th, 07. THE VAUGHNERS- 3 shows- 14 min. in one. Colored man and woman. Fair singing and dancing act. REED & PARSON- 3 shows. 12 min. Opening in two, closing in one. Some bright talking, clever acrobatic work, and exceptionally good kicking. MUSICAL HUEHN- 3 shows. 15 min. in one. Character instrumentalist, monologist and vocalist. Mr. Huehn might cut out the talking and singing to the benefit of his act. ELSIE BOEHME- 7 min. in one. "The little girl with the big voice". This young woman has a deep baritone, rich resonance and a very pleasing personality. She went well with our audience. MIDDLETON- SPELLMEYER & CO.- "A Texas Wooing" 19 min., full stage. In spite of a slow, draggy opening and a melodramatic closing, this act has been making a hit all week. It is a novelty with the atmosphere of "Strong Heart". Mr. Middleton and Miss Spellmeyer acquit themselves creditably and a genuine Indian adds something of realism, but nothing of dramatic value to the act. FOUR STEWART SISTERS- 10 min. Opening in one-finish in full stage. These girls are the original English Dancing Dolls. While their opening is somewhat marred by mediocre voices, they work up to a splendid finish; the dancing and rope skipping introducing picturesque statue clog. WORK & OWER- 6 min. in one. One of the most laughable comedy acrobatic acts we have played and it goes with a snap and bang from start to finish and has had the house in a roar at all times. BERT LESLIE & CO. 22 min. Full stage. Mr. Leslie is presenting a new version of "Hogan's Visit", his slang classic, which eliminates the old Roman travesty and injects into the story a touch of melo-drama by the introduction of a burglar incident. Mr. Leslie's slang is more pungent and pithy than ever and, of course, the essential feature of the act. It is rough, though not suggestive, and he talks with such rapidity that we feel no offense can be taken from it. CORAM- 12 min. in one. English Ventriloquist- very English. Works with dummy something after the fashion of "Prince". Coran is artistic but handicapped both by his English dialect and some mannerisms which destroy the illusion of the dummy doing any conversation. Coram frequently fails to get over the footlights but in spots his act seems to please. It is not a great act. This is undoubtedly one of the best animal acts of its kind we have played. The dogs and monkeys are almost human in their intelligent initiative. No human appears on the stage, yet they perform a real life story with the cleverness of human actors. The intoxicated dog is particularly humorous and evokes applause from all parts of the house. SYLVAN & O'NEAL- 3 shows. 5 min. full stage. Man and woman. Man does some fairly good acrobatic tumbling- particularly his humorous falls. The woman is excess. John P. Harris.
