May Tully & Co. applause at the finish of an act is indicative of it's entire success, that only shows its success of the finish for the audience is asleep during the remainder of it. Miss Tully's sketch as I said is 35 min. long, short opening in one, close full stage, 2 shows. Elizabeth Murray. If I had a show in which I could put Miss Murray on at 8.15 and no later and if I were paying her about $100. a week, I would be satisfied. Under existing conditions she simply got by and there was no insistent demand for her to come back. 12 min. in 1, 8 shows. Fred Walton & Co. Considering the salary of this act, it is a bitter disappointment. In fact as far as I can find reports, with the exception of Boston, this act has never reached the audience in any city. I don't want to give the impression that I don't consider Mr. Walton an artist and a very excellent one, but even as salaries go today the act is by no means worth the money, because an act which draws that salary should do more than please, it should draw people in. As mentioned above his support is something awful. The funniest thing in our whole show was the attempt of the lady (who plays the nurse) to sing a lullaby and it got the biggest laugh from the audience of anything on the bill. The scenery is a disgrace and if I had anything that at all fitted the conditions I wouldn't allow him to hang it in the theatre. 27 min. full stage, 3 shows. Smith & Campbell. There is no doubt that these men were terribly handicapped by the dead stuff that proceeded them. They have a lot of good material and I think under normal circumstances would make a hit. As it was it was really wonderful how well they went. 20 min. in 1, 3 shows. Palfrey & Hoefler. The usual bicycle act, straight man and comedy. All right in its way, but not strong enough to close the show in a house that has the big acts that we usually do. 11 min. full stage, 2 shows. Motion Pictures. O. K. NOTE: I want to go on record as stating that I did not personally book a single act in this show excepting Palfrey & Hoefler and the 3-a-day stuff. At the same time I don't want to have the impression go out that I am simply finding fault, because of that condition. I only want to justify myself.
