C. B. BARNS PHILADELPHIA SHOW JAN. 4-08 JACK & BERTHA RICH. 10 min. in one. This a good little song and dance act. The singing is fairly good, but the dancing is particularly good for an act in this section. Good closing hand. MIMIC FOUR. "The Day After." 16 min. close in one. This opens full stage with some comedy including an irascible Frenchman and an amusing maid. The comedy is fair but the singing in one is really the best part of the act. This includes the tough character, the Pseudo Englishman on Broadway, "The Coster," and the "Toreador." This part of the act got a strong hand. Rightly placed. SANSONE & DELILA. 11 min. F. S. Sansons is a showman through and through. He makes the best of every one of his stunts, many of which are really remarkable in dexterity and requiring phenomenal strength. The act consists of hoisting the woman on poles, bicycles and other paraphernalia, and balancing her upon his chin. The woman herself is a very clever athlete. Altogether the act thoroughly made good. MR. QUICK. 17 min. in one. This is very original. Not only draws cartoons well, but his idea is a good one -- that of illustrating various songs familiar to everybody. Held the interest of the audience throughout and got a good hand at the finish. We have had Outcalt's and Winsor Mc Cay's, but we have not had anybody that hit the audience as hard as this chap right off the reel. He works like lightning and every stroke means something. He is certainly a genius in his line and could make good on any bill. EDWARD DAVIS & CO. "All River Meet at Sea." 16 min. F. S. This is a melodramatic incident along the usual lines of a mistaken family incident wherein the supposedly erring wife is brought back to her husband and child through the confession of a scoundrel brother for mercenary motives. The act holds the interest of the audience and whereas the denouement is obvious from the first, the lines are good, the cast strong, and the stage setting artistic, while the work of Davis himself is thoroughly convincing. Good applause at finish. KENNEY, MACGAHAN & PLATT. 17 min. in one. Three men, one working blackface, the others straight. Sing very well indeed. Line of talk fairly good. Each selection won a fair hand and the close was good. THE FADETTES. 35 min. F.S. The Fadettes always made good here and today's hit was no exception to the rule. Good advance hand and applause after each number. Every time Mrs. Nichols comes she seems to have her orchestra in better control. Always a money-bringer with us. CUNNINGHAM & MARION. 15 min. in one. Two men, both working straight. Excellent acrobatic work combined with some good humor. Made a decided hit in this spot. Big applause and finish likewise. ED. WYNN & CO. "Mr. Busybody." 31 min. F. S. This Wynn's home town and his friends have been watching his jump from the duo in one to a "real production." By the way he was received here today one is convinced that he has won out. The act did not drag for a moment, and although it is incoherent and without plot, nevertheless, there is much stuff in it, and Wynn himself is very amusing. The stage setting is very fetching and the costuming all that can be desired. Immense applause at the finish. This is Wynn's house today, and therefore hardly a criterion; but for all that he has talent and a good act better than the recent ones of Joe Hart and almost in the Lasky class.
