REPORT ON PROVIDENCE SHOW, WEEK OF JANUARY 18th, 1909. Chas. Lovenberg, Manager. In spite of two disappointments, we have still a pretty good show left and are saving the cost of the two acts which disappointed, being fortunate in having some good long ones on the bill. Billy Van, at rehearsal this morning, didn't like his place on the bill, prefering to rrsign which I permitted him to do. He refused to go on in that place, violating his contract and those who want to lose him can now do so, it seems to me. Stanley & Russell, or rather Stanley with a new girl in place of Miss Russell and the rankest kind of an amateur, gave such a bad performance that I closed them after the first show. Montague's Cockatoos I like this act first rate. While it is not put on with the elaborate paraphenalia of other acts of the kind, he made good through a number of very unusual tricks. At the salary should be a good opener for the small houses. 18 Min. F. S. 3 shows Austin Walsh Novelty monologue, "Seeing New York". A good idea which Mr. Walsh does not make the most of. 15 Min. in 1 1/2, closing in One. 3 shows. The Van Dykes Sometimes billed Beverly & Van Dyke Another one of the many man and woman pianists and character singer acts we are having following the success of Franklin & Green. The woman is fairly clever, the man does some good piano work, and with better material should be something of a success. Now fairly good. 18 Min. F. S. 3 shows. Le Dent Well-known comedy juggler who went as well as usual 12 Min. in One, 2 shows. Steely & Edwards Two men in a comedy musical act, one blackface. Fairly good. 23 Min. Open F. S. Close in One. 2 shows. Barnes & Crawford This act was something of a surprise. The man is a good comedian and they get away with their stuff in good shape. Not a great act, but a mighty good one, especially considering salary. 21 Min. F.S. Close in One, 2 shows. The Kyasyas Dental and hirsute heavy weight lifting. A novelty that I think will create talk, altho they did not receive a great amount of applause. 10 Min. F. S. 2 shows. Ryan & White These boys were veritable life savers, being able to place them in such an important spot making Van and Stanley & Russell easily dispensible. A hit. 10 Min. in One, 3 shows. "The Naked Truth". This act is too well-known to require extended comment. Satisfied thoroughly and I am sure will draw us money. To my mind about the best of the big musical comedy acts produced this season. 37 Min. F. S. 2 shows. Field & Ward With very little new stuff, managed to hold this spot acceptably. 23 Min. in One. 2 shows. Duffin Redcay Troupe Splendid casting act. 10 Min. F. S. 2 shows. Motion Pictures O.K.
