REPORT ON PROVIDENCE SHOW, WEEK OF JANUARY 25, 1909' Chas. Lovenberg, Manager. Considering the cost of this bill, it is quite unsatisfactory. At least four of the acts - namely, Lawrence Crane & Co., The Angelus, Ruth Allen & Co. and Gillingwater & Co. - are not worth to us anything like the money they are getting. Rhodes & Engel. Little opening act which served its purpose in this spot. 11 Min. F. S. 3 shows. Myers & Rosa Lassoo act. Good value and all right in this spot. 12 Min. 3 shows. F. S. Brooks & Jeanette Well-known little act that has quite a little new material. Worth playing in a number two spot in the small houses. 13 Min. in One, [2?] shows. Lawrence Crane & Co. In rather a pretentious magic act and I suppose he must get what he does for it in order to live. That does not alter the fact that magic acts have no great value here, Warren Keane being worth about as much to us as Horace Goldin. 27 Min. F. S. 10 Minutes too long. 2 shows. The Angelus The same comment about expense said of Lawrence Crane above goes for this act. The Angelus, while costly, is an actual detriment to the Village Choir act. The final song, the Angelus, is long drawn out and unmusical and falls flat after the strong applause given to their preceding numbers. 20 Min. Open in One, close F. S. 2 shows. Ruth Allen and London Johnnies If I were Mr. Lasky I would take this act off Saturday night. It will do him more harm than good. 25 Min. in 1 1/2. 2 shows. Zinka Panna Here was the first act of real merit up to now. A young woman who plays upon an elaborate dulcimer and upon a violin, and has three dogs who do some comedy work. A g good vaudeville act, worth playing in every house. 15 Min. in One, 2 shows. Lisle Leigh & Co. Sketch, "Weaving the Net", which has been played over the circuit, and, at the price, is excellent value. 20 Min. F. S. 2 shows. Brown & Nevarro Colored man and woman, character songs and dances, repeating their former success. 15 Min. in One, 2 shows. The Kellinos Two well-known for comment. Biggest acrobatic hit we ever had. 15 Min. F. S. 2 shows. Clifford & Burke In a routine of almost entirely new material. The laughing hit of the show, receiving two laughs to Gillingwater's one. 22 Min. in One. 2 shows. Claude Gillingwater & Co. This act is not worth its salary to this house and, while the audience was evidently pleased, it did not get the shrieks of laughter credited to it in other theatres. 30 Min. F. S. 2 shows. Motion Pictures O.K.
