Report on Columbus Show for the week of April 12th, 1909. W. W. Prosser. BEN BEYER & BRO.: Two men in one of the best cycle acts that has played this house for a long time. They were awarded applause all through the act and finished decidedly strong. 12 minutes, exterior in 4. KAUFMAN BROS.: These boys have a very lively and entertaining black-face act and they won approval all the way through. Their finish was very satisfactory. Street in one, 11 minutes. MR. & MRS. GENE HUGHES: In their well known comedy sketch, "Suppressing the Press". The act won a lot of laughs and gave satisfaction throughout. Finished very well. No fault to find. 21 minutes, C. D. F. FIVE MUSICAL AVOLOS: Well known xylophone act which made the biggest sort of a hit. Their patriotic finale brought everybody in the house to their feet and they took several bows. 14 minutes, oleo in one. GRIFF: A very clever and entertaining performer whose juggling and comedy talking act is very meritorious. It took the house quite a little while to catch his peculiar style, but they finally got onto him and he went excellently. In my opinion he will go bigger and better at the succeeding performances. Not a particle of fault to find. Palace in 2, 22 minutes. SMITH & CAMPBELL: Best talking act in vaudeville and notwithstanding the disadvantage of following Griff fared decidedly good. Their points did not miss fire and throughout the act they held the undivided attention of the house. 17 minutes, landscape in one. THE LOVE WALTZ: This well known Lasky act was very favorably received. The individual and ensemble numbers all went well and at the finish the act took several curtains. I was a little surprised at this, having heard in advance that the act did not amount to a great deal, this from several sources. It has excellent scenic equipment and is well costumed. About the only defect I could observe was that some of the costumes, particularly shoes and stockings, looked as though they were not up to the minute in the way of cleanliness. Mr. Lasky should impress on the manager of the act the necessity of keeping the clothes of his people spotless for the act is to a great extent of the "sight order". Special set in four, 34 minutes. MOVING PICTURES: O. K.
