REPORT on PROVIDENCE SHOW, WEEK OF APRIL 19, 1909. Chas. Lovenberg, Manager. It was difficult to get a line on the show this afternoon on account of having a holiday audience and is being a Massachusett's holiday instead of a local holiday brought us a lot of countrymen from the vicinity of Boston to whom the hokum appeals more than the classy. I have an idea that with our regular clientele this show will give satisfaction. LaRose & LaGusta On at 2.03 and 7.45 Slack wire act by two men with some work similar to the Onlaw Trio. Satisfactory in this early spot. 12 Min. F. S. Ila Crannon 2.15 and 7.57 Young woman singer with a pleasing personality who manages to get three songs over in a fairly satisfactory manner. 10 Min. in One. Dixie Serenaders 2.25 and 8.07 Four men and two women in a lively melange of singing, dancing and comedy. 21 Min. open in Two, close in One. Could do entire act in One. Wm. H. Thompson & Co. On at 2.46 and 8.30 To me this is the finest piece of character acting ever presented in vaudeville and probably upon the American stage. It is the kind of an act that in this town, I believe, has value. 33 Min. F. S. Henry Clive 3.20 and 8.58 Assisted by Mai Sturgis Walker. This is supposed to be a comedy magic act, but the magic falls into insignificance beside the man's clever monologue. The personalities of the people are both good and the act pleased. 18 Min. in One. At the Waldorf 3.40 and 9.12 Mr. Lasky gave us two new people today replacing McKenzie & Shannon and I think they are an improvement upon the latter. I don't think the man plays with Shannon's breeziness but the woman is decidedly better than Miss McKenzie. The act evidently pleased and altho it got no great amount of applause during the action of the play they were given a number of strong curtain calls at the finish which were most genuine and not forced. I feel that the act has value. 40 Min. F. S. and a little more. Ben Welch. On 4.20 and 9.53 Well-known Jew and Italian monologuist whose sledding was pretty hard at this spot especially with an audience who evidently knew nothing of the characters. He got by first rate, however, and should be a big hit the rest of the week. 18 Min. in One. Morton Jewell Troupe 4.38 and 10.10 A very well dressed and accoutred club juggling act in which they introduce about as good work as I have ever seen. Held this spot with satisfaction. 10 Min. F. S. Motion Pictures O.K.
