REPORT ON PROVIDENCE SHOW, WEEK OF MAY 3rd, 1909. Chas. Lovenberg, Manager. The show this week is quite satisfactory. I think it will draw us as much business at this season of the year as a more expensive bill would unless we had a freak headline act of some kind. Madge Fox Miss Fox didn't do as well for us this year as last. In fact, she found it pretty hard sledding. 9 Min. in One. Rayno's Bull Terriers A corking good lively act that starts the show off in great shape. Lots of comedy and a number of very good tricks. 10 Min. F. S. Dr. John C. Bowker Illustrated lecture, "Albion in Africa". This man always scores here. I was a little apprehensive about it this time, however, on account of the lectures which we have been having in the Nickel shows. That seems to have made no difference and Dr. Bowker was entitled to success, which he scored. 22 Min. in One. Chas. Ahearn Troupe Comedy bicycle act which has been described many times. Suffice to say it is the same big hit here that it has been other places. This act was originally schedule to close the show, with Fred Zobedie in the spot that Rayno's Dogs are. Zobedie's baggage arrived so late, however, that I was obliged to close the show with him and the bill played so well this way that I have let it stand arranged so. Thus saving the Ahearn troupe for the middle of the show and getting more value from them, starting the show off in a lively manner with Rayno's Dogs and closing satisfactorily with Zobedie. The Ahearn act runs 17 Min. F. S. "The" Quartette For this house this is the best straight quartette in the business. A big hit this afternoon. 17 Min. in One. The Great Lester Ventriloquist. I am inclined to believe that Arthur Prince does a better act but I don't believe that the public would rate Prince any better. Lester is sufficiently good to be featured as a headliner in almost any house in the world. He was a great hit this afternoon and I am sure the act will be talked about. He held the audience amused and interested every one of the twenty-six minutes he was on the stage, will one figure. In One. Jane Courthope & Co. In "Lucky Jim". There is a boy actor in the company who should be featured instead of Miss Courthope. In fact the burden of the work falls upon him. The sketch is a beautiful one, staged in magnificent style and well acted. A good headliner anywhere as far as merit is concerned. 25 Min. F.S. Howard & Howard Well-known act that made its usual hit 20 Min. in One. Fred Zobedie Hand balancer, probably the best we have ever had in the house. This was a hard spot for this man, but he made a hit in it nevertheless. 10 Min. F.S. Motion Pictures O.K.
