C. E. BARNS. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. AUGUST 2. '09 THE LEVOLOS/--Sensational Wire act. Mighty good opener. 9 min. F.S Man and woman making a good appearance. Work with tabls, hoops, and cycle on slack wire. This part of their work is very expert and wins big applause. Would be acceptable on any bill. EVANS & LEE.--Dancers. 10 min. in one. Great dancing feature and no mistake. , rapid, varied and artistic. Their wodden-shoe work is particularly fine and gets the big hand. Strong close. A winner. HASTINGS & WILSON.--"The Lunatics." 9 min. F. S. Good comedy act, consisting of a little of everything from eccentric dancing and ground-tumbling to burlesque strong-man work with the invisible wire. Applause throughout. Much of their stuff is new and all funny. Big finish. GAVIN, PLATT & PEACHES.--'The Stolen Kid.' 20 min, drop in 1 1-2. Was afraid act would not do for this spot as it started rather slow, but it gathered strength as it went along, the singing being particularly pleasing. Worked up to a fine finish and proved acceptable in this spot. The close in one was particularly novel and funny. TOM WATERS.--Pianologue, etc. 19 min in one. Splendid line of talk, a little eccentric dancing and much piano-playing with imitations of various characters. Waters is a big favorite here and was strongly applauded from his entrance to the fifth encore. One of the best entertainers in the business and could play here often. A decided hit. STUART BARNES/ Monologues. 21 min in one. Made his usual big hit with the major portion of his act new. Never fails to score heavily in this house, and today duplicated his former success. Two encores. CECIL LEAN & FLORENCE HOLBROOK.--'Just as they are.' 23 min. F. S. close in one. Two of the most classy entertainers we have had here in a very long time. Their songs are new and brilliant in matter and of course all that could be desired in point of delivery. Caught the audience from the first and finished very strong with some of the most novel vocal work we have ever enjoyed here. They will be particular favorites with evening audiences and will be widely talked about. THE FOUR READINGS.--Acrobatis. 9 min. F.S. A crackerjack closing act. Scene represents a gymnasium and the four boys appear to gymnasium costumes. Work very expert and novel, receiving continued applause. Boys are young and make a clean-cut appearance. The little fellow is particularly a wonder in his line. Act absolutely O.K. GENERAL REMARKS/. This is a gem show for the summer season and needed no transposing. Everybody satisfied with it, and Old Sol being halfway civil to us, we ought to do the business. KINETOGRAPH.--Assortment of Aeroplanes. Held for 2nd. week. Great series 'An uninvited Guest." Good comedy of regulation French order.
