KEITH'S HIPPODROME. Cleveland, Ohio. Sept 27th 1909 Ned S. Hastings. ***1*** THE WHEELERS. Man and woman. Time 10. In 3 garden. In tramp costume the man does some lazy juggling reminiscent of W.C. Fields. Then follows a little good Jap work. A duck hunting pantomime is very good. Act sums up fair. ***2*** CHARLES McDONALD, and The MISSES CRAWFORD and MONTROSE. Time 13. In 1. Mc Donald holds the stage most of the time singing and dancing while the girls are changing and also singing with the girls in Spanish, Scotch and Irish songs. Their dancing is unusually neat, quiet and effective. Very pleasing act. ****3**** NEW PIANOPHIENDS. 4 girls, 5 men. Time 17. Special F.S. set. A great improvement even over the original act and company. The big features of ensemble piano playing make the same big hits. But in this new version there is more individual work, all of which is very clever. The act won a riot of applause. *******6******* THE BASQUE QUARTETTE. 3 men, 1 woman. in 1. Time, 12. Sing excellently popular Grand opera numbers in French, Italian and English. More quartettes of this calibre are needed. *****7****** "AT THE SOUND OF THE GONG" Time 26. Open in a disgraceful set-about the shabbiest ever seen here, in 3 showing what once represented the interior of a gymnasium. Go to F.S. by transparency showing fight in ring. Close in opening set. 1 woman, and 3 men appear as principals. This sketch is certainly suggestive of "The Star Scout", but yet merits credit for originality of handling. There is a good comedy vein throughout and many unusually bright lines. The company is all good. The fight is realistic and won a big hand. With a few dollars invested for new scenery this act would be a crackerjack. *****8******** ARTHUR RIGBY. In 1 Blackface. Time 10. Material very stale, However Mr Rigby's manner is engaging. The audience laughed at everything he said although he certainly delivered old timers. *******5********* DE WITT, BURNS and TORRANCE. 2 men, 1 woman. Time 12. In 4 special toy shop interior. Presenting "The Awakening Of The Toys." This is one of the best offerings seen here for a long time. The trio take the parts of Jack-in-the-box, Pierotte, and the Wooden Soldier. There is a lot of wonderful pantomime which brings immense applause. Then follows excellent grotesque tumbling with some thrilling twists by the men. Perch work done by the Wooden soldier beats anything ever done by the best Jap troupes here and is a feature in itself. ******9******** GRIGOLATI'S AERIAL BALLET. Six coryphees and M'lle Floretta. Better than ever and producing big effect on the audience. M'lle Floretta toward the end does a specialty along in which live doves flying over the audience play an important part. Later she is joined by the rest of the ballet, and scores of doves alighting on the flying women makes a beautiful sight. The act has been augmented here this week by about 50 girls to fill out the stage picture. In this form it ran 17 min. The ballet alone runs about 10 min. ******* 4 ********* OTTO BROS. 2 men. In 1. Dutch comedy costumes. Below par in humor and delivery.
