Boston show week November 1, 1909. R. G. Larsen (Monday afternoon show) Overture. On at 1:50, 10 minutes. Zara Carmen Trio. On at 2:00, 8 minutes full stage. This troupe had a very pretty setting, but the work cannot be called lively, and this afternoon it made misses that marred the entire act. Swan & O'Day. On at 2:06, 12 minutes in 1. This black face team started out very slow, in fact, they failed to get a good gait until near the end and when some dancing livened things up a bit. Rudenyi & Company. On at 2:20, 22 minutes full stage. Rudenyi's violin playing is really great and the sketch itself is not half bad, but after a week of Van Biene, a similar act following had a harder task to make good. It is a question whether our audience really want these people in sketches, although this afternoon the act made a fair impression. Thurber & Madison. On at 2:42, 19 minutes in 1. This act was put on in place of Scott & Wilson, and did very well in spots, in fact, it gives promise of a very good act, but at present it does not move fast enough to get all there is in it. White & Stuart. On at 3:02, 31 minutes full stage. They played "Cherie," and although it got plenty of laughs and both Mr White and Miss Stuart were as funny as ever, the attitude of the audience was such that it is a question how often we should play these old sketches, no matter how good they are. -2- "The" Quartette. On at 3:32, 18 minutes in 1. Made good all the time. One of the best quartettes we have played. Princess Rajah. On at 3:50, 15 minutes full stage. Any doubt as to the advisability of playing this act was dispelled this afternoon. There is certainly nothing in the dance at all objectionable, and even the snake part of it has lost some of its creepiness. The act was certainly one big hit and got a half a dozen curtains. Nat Wills. On at 4:05, 21 minutes in 1. Wills was supposed to give his new monologue but this afternoon there was a movement in the audience at the close of Rajah's act and he evidently got discouraged and started in on his old line of talk, the result being rather disappointing, as it has been heard here before so many times. While he did not make any kick, he was rather dissatisfied with his place on the bill following Rajah, but will do the new monologue to-night. Mangean Troupe. On at 4:26, 7 minutes full stage. Quite a good lively closing act. Kinetograph. On at 4:33, "Humorous Adventures in an Airship," fair comedy; "The French Battleship 'Justice'," just fair.
