B.F. KEITH'S PHILADELPHIA AUGUST 19 8 PATHE Up to the usual average OTTO ADLON & CO. 12 min. This act did not come up to promises, even as an opener. Adlon works in tramp make-up, using an assistant. Uses a lot of material for comedy purposes, but got few laughs and his act is dragged out beyond reason. Juggling is only fair, routine consisting of tricks used by every tramp juggler in vaudeville. BERNARD & TERMINI 12 min. These boys were a big applause hit with their piano and violin selections and deserved all they got. A musical act full of life, good music and looks well. Closed strong. CATHERINE POWELL. 16. A very good dance novelty. The girl is clever, has some excellent ideas which are well worked out and wears several changes of attractive costumes. Act away from the usual dance offering and was very well received. EMMA STEPHENS. 16 min. Repeated the good impression made on her former visit. Has a pleasing voice and personality. Two or three of her songs have been frequently used here, but as a whole her program was well received. THE MASTERSINGERS 23 min. "At Fore River." This is one of the best productions these singers have offered in vaudeville. Setting represents a ship yard with the men in working clothes and got a big hand. Program of songs is almost entirely new and, as usual very well sung. Have a strong closing number with a war song in which the audience joins and it gave them a great finish. MARSHALL MONTGOMERY. 23 min. He deserves credit for building up his act away above any of the other ventriloquists. It makes a great flash and his comedy is better than ever. Edna Courtney has worked into a valuable assistant to Montgomery and his act scored a big hit. JEAN ADAIR & CO. 27 min. "Maggie Taylor-Waitress" This is the same act Miss Adair presented here last season and it proved a strong repeater. She has a new company, but the sketch is splendidly played, contains a lot of good comedy lines with a vein of pathos and takes a firm grip on the audience. It was warmly received and finished strong. L. Wolfe GILBERT & FRIEDLAND. 11 min. Following a lot of singing and music these boys scored solidly in the next-to-closing spot, holding it in fine shape and being forced to respond to extra encores. Have a lot of new songs which helped them to go big. GEORGE N. BROWN & Co. 10 min. This is the first time in a long while we have played an act of this kind and it proved a real novelty to our patrons, the foot race creating plenty of interest and amusement. Closed to a big hand.
