PHILADELPHIA B. F. KEITH'S DECEMBER 9 8. PICTURES - 16 mins. The series of Red Cross pictures, called, "Of No Use To Germany" are a big improvement over last week's pictures and were very well received. RETTER BROTHERS - 10 mins. A very good opener. Two men in a comedy acrobatic turn. One straight and one comedy. Good routine. Went well. McFARLAND & PALACE - 16 mins. Two men with splendid voices and get a lot out of several songs. They also used some talking which is dragged out a little too much. More singing would be better as it was on this that they received their biggest hand. Closed strong. FLORENCE ROBERTS & CO. - 23 mins. Substituted for William H. Thompson Company and using "The Woman Intervenes", which was played here several years ago. Miss Roberts scored a solid hit. This is an excellent playlet and unusually well played. Closed very strong. ETHEL HOPKINS - 13 mins. A rather classy single singing turn that found much favor with our audience. She sang three numbers and while none of them was new she sang each very well and was warmly received. She made a stunning appearance in a very beautiful costume. "SWEETIES" - 24 mins. William B. Friedlander and Will M. Hough have given vaudeville a real musical gem in their newest production. It is a war story and full of comedy that kept the audience laughing from start to finish. The principals are Lillian Berse and a quartette of male voices and their singing is high class. None of the minature musical comedies that we have had in a long time has made such a big hit. Finished very strong. SIDNEY GRANT - 19 mins. It is twelve years since this comedian has played this house. He has not been forgotten and scored one of the biggest hits of the show with his stories and imitations. He was compelled to come back for an enchore and finished very good. LUCILLE CAVANAGH, assisted by three male associates. 23 mins. This is undoubtedly the best act Miss Cavanagh has ever presented in vaudeville and it was a riot of applause for her from start to finish. It has music, color and action and is beautifully staged and costumed, and altogether is one of the classiest and most versatile dancing acts in years. At the finish Miss Cavanagh was forced to take several extra bows. ANN & MARIE CLARK - 16 mins. A low comedy turn by two women that followed a show travelling a mile a minute and got a lot of laughs. They have an opening and closing bit that is a positive riot and kept the audience highly amused during the intervening period with their dialogue and songs, and a bit of dancing. Closed to a big laugh. BELGIUM TRIO - 5 mins. A very classy hand-to-hand balancing act by three men. One dresses as a woman and the impersonation is so good as to be almost unrecognizable. They have a good routine, well handled and closed the show in a very satisfactory manner. GENERAL REMARKS - One of the best shows we have played in a long, long time. It is full of music, color, comedy and class with a variety of almost everything that goes to make up a high class vaudeville bill and it went over at a mile-a-minute.speed. CUTS MCFARLAND & PALACE - Use of the expressions "Castor Oil" "Suck Around" and "Hang Over".
