H. T. JORDAN. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. MAY 12, 1913. THE [SYL???]. 13 min. in one. A very ordinary xylophone act. Man and woman. woman should wear long skirts. Just got by as an opener. Would not care to play again. BERG BROS. 9 min. F.S. Bicycle act. Two men. One works straight, the other clown. Whole act modeled after the Charles Ahearn idea, but as the novelty of the idea is gone, the freak wheels got nothing. Work on the unicycle pulled the act up to a fair finish. Not better than an opener for this house. MANNING, MOORE & O'ROURKE. 11 min. in one. Philadelphians. Three boys - clean-looking, nicely dressed and do a regulation rathskeller act. Held this spot nicely and should go well in any house, not on too late. Received advance applause, a good hand at the finish and through the act. EDISON TALKING PICTURES. 8 min. "Mayor Gaynor and his Cabinet." On account of the novelty of this picture, I put it in the middle of the bill. Held the attention from the first. As each character appeared on the sheet ready to speak, received a small hand, "Big Bill" Edwards getting the best reception. Fair hand at the finish and shall keep in this spot all the week. W. C. FIELDS. 23 min. F.S., close in one. Much of the old in his work, but quite a good many new stunts. This man's work is always clever, he is a local favorite and went extremely well all the way through, taking four bows at the finish with his cigar boxes. MILTON POLLOCK & CO. "Speaking to Father." 18 min. F.S. This is a typical George Ade sketch, some of the lines being very witty. Pollock himself is very good and have no fault to find with the rest of the company. Got quite a number of laughs all the way through, and closed well. HERMAN TIMBERG. 11 min. in one. First time for Timberg in this house since he has been working alone. His violin-playing went over very well, as did his songs, but the hit of the act was the dancing finish. Went big. KITTY GORDON. 15 min. F.S. Miss Gordon received a big advance hand and applause after each one of her numbers, closing particularly well in her duet with the lady in the box. Makes a stunning appearance and should be complimented on the way she has staged her act. Good headliner. HENRY & FRANCIS. 13 min. in one. These people had a hard struggle this afternoon, as at the conclusion of Gordon's act, about half of the house were on their feet, showing that they had come only to see Gordon. Did fairly well all the way through, but not at all up to their usual standard in this house. ZERTHO'S DOGS. 20 min. F.S. The champion "bunk" act of the year. A million dogs all doing nothing. Act entirely too long. There are three or four fairly good stunts in the act. The act as a whole proved a disappointment and failed to create much interest. May go better tonight. EDISON PICTURE. "Nursery Favorites." This picture is a novelty, as it is taken particularly for the children, and as such will be all right to close the show. GENERAL REMARKS. Show this afternoon failed to play off as it should. Got a weak start, very big in the middle and fell away to nothing at the finish. Shall transpose Kitty Gordon and Milton Pollock for tonight and expect to get better results, although do not think that Zertho' will be able to do much in the closing spot and Berg Brothers are not strong enough to go down, especially in view of the fact that Charles Ahearn's first and second companies have both appeared here at the opposition houses recently. CUTS MILTON POLLOCK: Expression "My God!" HERMAN TIMBERG: Word "devil."
