H. T. JORDAN. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. SEPT. 1, 1913. THE LABAKANS. 8 min. in Three. Two men. One working straight, the other eccentric, doing ground acrobatics. The feature of the act is a little dog which does a somersault and a few rolls. All right for an opener. MURIEL & FRANCIS. 14 min. in one. Two girls. Sister act. Display some Parisian gowns which are startling to say the least. Both have pretty good voices and went over nicely. MARTIN & FARRINI. 9 min. in 1 1/2. Man and woman introducing up-to-date dances. Went by fairly well and closed better with a pantomimic and acrobatic number. All right for this spot. JOHNSON'S TRAVELOGUES. 22 min. Descriptive lecture of Jack London's tour of the South Sea Islands. Shows about thirty slides and one reel running about fourteen minutes. Whole act did twenty-two minutes this afternoon, but will be cut down to twenty, possibly eighteen. Held the interest of the holiday audience remarkably well and was rewarded by quite a bit of applause at the finish. BOWERS, WALTERS & CROCKER. "The Three Rubes." 13 min. in Three, close in one. Just back from Europe, doing identically the same act as always. While they made them laugh, did not seem to get the spontaneous laughter as on previous visits. The hot weather probably had a good deal to do with this. PIETRO. 17 min. in one. As good a "buy" as his brother Diero at much less money. Everything he did went big and he was the applause hit of the show. NORA BAYES & CO. 51 min. F.S. In my judgment, the act of Miss Bayes as at present framed is about twice too long and too talky. This afternoon she did over forty minutes before she came into her songs. Failed to do much with the audience until she got down to her songs at the finish when she went as big as ever. Will watch the act again tonight as the fly-talk this afternoon may have been over the heads of the holiday audience and will go with the regulars. Understand that the act was a terrific hit in Atlantic City all through. May prove so here, but failed to get results this afternoon. BEN DEELY & CO. "The New Bell Boy." Assisted by Marie Wayne. 22 min. Doing the same act as last season. Did well in a hard spot. THREE ESCARDOS. 5 min. F.S. Good fast acrobatic act and made a good closer to a too-long show. PATHE WEEKLY. About the same as usual. CUTS BEN DEELY & CO. The word "h---;" expressions "My God," "The lady in number Nine wants a boy" and "He thinks the bed is a little buggy and he is taking a ride."
