C. E. BARNS. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. SEPT. 8, 1913. ROSER'S AERIAL DOGS. 13 min. F.S. A dog act that is far out of the usual line, and although not as spectacular as many we have had, nevertheless, the dogs show extraordinary training and do difficult stunts that are rarely seen. The dog on the slack wire is a wonder and closed the performance to a good hand. Could hold a good spot on any bill. JUGGLING BURKES. 8 min. in one. These boys do the regulation club stunts working very fast and getting an occasional hand for some good feats. Closed well. WELCH, FRANCIS & CO. 22 min. F.S. "The Flip Mr. Flop." this act is not strong enough to go in a better spot. The comedy is of the burlesque order and neither one of the young women has a singing voice so that the songs went weak. A very mild close after their burlesque band. BABY HELEN. 10 min. in one. Advance hand. this little child is a favorite here and her songs and witticisms received a good hand. A good line of material, well presented, closing very well. FRANK SHERIDAN & CO. "Blackmail." 26 min. F.S. This is a strong sketch, and while not along particularly original lines, nevertheless it held the interest of the audience from first to last, and closed very strong. This being Richard Harding Davis' home town, there was probably a good deal of curiosity on the part of the public to see the act which justified the former recommendations, Mr. Sheridan's work being strong and convincing. LEWIS & DODY. 17 min. in one. Same line of material as given here before, and all well applauded. Closed particularly strong with their parodies. LeROY, TALMA & BOSCO. 25 min. F.S. As this is the first performance in America, there were some misgivings as to the act running smoothly but once it started, it went exceedingly well. Some of the tricks have been seen here before, but they were presented in such a new way as to give them the color of originality. The paraphernalia is showy and the whole act is presented in a showman-like manner. The illusions were particularly mystifying and the transformation tricks received a strong hand. The work done through the audience by the three performers in collecting gold-pieces and articles of wearing apparel from the patrons, created quite a sensation and a great deal of laughter. The closing transformation act is really astounding and brought their performance to a big close. Altogether this feature has lived up to its recommendations from abroad and is bound to make good over the circuit. THE COURTNEY SISTERS. 10 min. in one. Big advance hand. these girls are certainly "the goods" right from the start. Every one of their splendid efforts got a fine hand, and the finish was so big that after six curtain calls, they were compelled to give an extra encore. STEINER TRIO. 8 min. F.S. Two men work comedy, one straight. Use a triple-bar with a double bar above. Their work is of the regulation bar order, and quite up to the high standard of our closing feature. The comedy is particularly good and altogether, the act is in the A1 class. PATHE WEEKLY. A very interesting series. GEN. REMARKS. A very good show that seemed to please our audience immensely this afternoon, judging from applause. CUTS WELCH, FRANCIS & CO. Business of spitting in face and remark about "sponge in mouth." BABY HELEN. Joke ending with "Grandma's stomach is full of gas."
