C. E. BARNS. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. SEPT. 15, 1913. KARL GREES. 16 min. F.S. An unique act and makes a creditable opener. Painted two landscapes both of which were well applauded. A distinct novelty in the lightning-picture line. RIESNER & GORES. 15 min. in one. Made a very good impression on their first appearance here. Carry their own drop. A lively lot of patter, with some good songs and some exceptional dancing by Miss Gores. Made a strong close with several curtain calls. TOM NAWN & CO. "The College Coach." 19 min. F.S. This is a good sketch on a simple theme with some good comedy Irish lines which Tom makes the best use of and has his audience with him all the way through. As this is Mr. Nawn's home town, his act went especially well. Closed to good applause. WARD BROS. 17 min. in one. These boys have a very original line of entertainment and take off the English Johnnie type in a most ludicrous manner. Their songs are funny and their eccentric dancing exceptionally good. An act that would please anywhere. MAY WIRTH & CO. 10 min. F.S. Too well known to need further comment than to say that Miss Wirth is as pretty and skilful as ever and the entire act very well applauded this afternoon, making a big close. THAW PICTURES. 18 min. These reels were an unqualified success today, Thaw coming in for plenty of applause, particularly in those portions in which the name of Pennsylvania was brought in. As a human document nothing could be finer, and the timeliness is a strong feature in his popularity. Applause at the finish. Jerome came in for some hisses and it was evident that the crowd was thoroughly with the prisoner. IMHOF, CONN & COREENE. 26 min. F.S. This is one of the funniest military burlesques we have ever played. Imhof's part of the Irish Private is immense, and he has excellent support. Audiences kept in good humor all the way through and the closing hand was strong. Deserves special commendation for waking up the house after the Thaw Pictures. An extremely hard spot. CLIFTON CRAWFORD. 22 min. in one. Big advance applause. Crawford is a great favorite here and his new material went exceptionally well. His Cockney gentleman "drunk" and his sneezing recitation are both gems. Selection from "The Quaker Girl" was especially well applauded. Finished strong. THREE ALEX. 9 min. F.S. A trio of fine-appearing athletes who work with high perches, ladders, rings and trapeze, all very skilful and winning a good hand for their various stunts. A very acceptable closer. PATHE WEEKLY. A particularly interesting series. GENERAL REMARKS. An entertaining well-balanced bill. While we have two Irish comedians, their work is so entirely different that I do not think the audience noticed the conflict. Thaw Pictures have already started discussion and I think will prove a good box office attraction. CUT RIESNER & GORES: Joke about "the chimney sweeps being smutty"
