B.F. KEITH'S UNION SQUARE NEW YORK WEEK OF SEP. 15th, 1913 THREE ENGLISH GIRLS SONGS AND DANCES 7 Minutes. A pleasant surprise in the of acrobatic dances, presented by three young ladies. The dances are on the order of the Madcaps, consisting of toe, acrobatic and high kicking. While the jury does not give any big applause, they were appreciated. A good opening act. PAUL PORTER AND ALICE SULLIVAN Skit 17 Minutes in one. Offering a skit that carries a light threaded story, with an occasional laugh here and there. The redeeming feature, the girl who is very pretty, and although neither possess a singing voice, they manage to finish strong by offering a neat little dance. For an early place, they will not cause any harm. Florence LORRAINE & Edgar DUDLEY 16 Minutes, Full Stage. A man and two women in a one-act farce, called, "The Finish". The story has to do with a woman impersonating a scrub-woman in order to obtain evidence against her husband. This character, portrayed by Miss Lorraine, is very well done, in fact, it is one of the best I ever aw, as she manages to get numerous laughs from the manner in which she attempt to clean the office. The skit is interesting and carries the attention right up to the finish, but drops on the finale, which is probably due to the author making too much of a "cad" out of the man, for, after the wife gets the evidence, by means of a flash-light, the husband goes after the stenographer in the next office. However, it pleases in this position. HARRY K. THAW MOTION PICTURES 17 Minutes in one. Very interesting, with Thaw receiving tremendous applause and Jerome getting the hisses. FLORENCE TEMPEST 23 Minutes, Full Stage. This clever little woman has at last attempted something that she can get away with. She sings her first two numbers in male attire, making two changes, and then as herself, in gorgeous gowns, finished with a cleverly rendered dance assisted by Herbert Hoffman, accompanied by Harry Wilson at the piano.who also gives a short solo during the changes. Her songs are all new, individual, clean and snappy and she manages to get every point over, thereby securing laugh after laugh, with applause for each. The offering, in its entirety, has an atmosphere of refinement, and is one that appeals to the better classes. Personally, I think she can top any bill and get away with it. Wilbur MACK and Nella WALKER 17 Minutes in one. Too well known for any comment, and only need to say they have added some new lines and songs and had the house laughing continually. A splendid number and they know how to get their material over. Finished as strong as any other number on the bill. FREDERICKA SLEMMONS and a company, consisting of two men and two women, presenting for the first time a one-act comedy drama, called, "Liz", by Chas. O'Donnell. For the benefit of the other managers, Miss Slemmons is a well known character woman, having played the "Old Maid" part in "The Lottery Man" and "Mrs. Babbit" in "The Traveling Salesman". The theme tells of a girl who is just about to go wrong and is saved by her sister. The character of "Liz" is cleverly handled by Miss Slemmons, who has some of the greatest slang expressions ever given by any author. Every line calls forth spontaneous laughter and is right to the point. It is one of those heart interest stories that carries every man, woman or child in the audience and holds them to the finale, in fact, it is so gripping at times, that on several occasions the audience got excited. The sketch is one of the best we have had so far this season. BARRY AND WOLFORD Songs 14 Minutes in one. Well known. Have a lot of new songs that fairly sparkle with wit and manage to get them over in good shape. Was a little afraid that they were not able to hold this position, but they managed by their local and up-to-date songs to score heavily, so strong that Barry was compelled to make a little speech. LA TOY BROTHERS Pantomimists 10 Minutes in one. A splendid closing number and received big applause for every gymnastic stunt they attempted.
