C. E. BARNS. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. OCT. 6, 1913. EMILIE SISTERS. 8 min. F.S. Two pretty girls who do the regulation stunts on the double trapeze, each one of their feats getting a fair hand. Closed well. HILLMAN & ROBERTS. 17 min. in one. This pair just about got by in this small spot. Two changes of costume, some fairly good songs and some Rube girl comedy. A fair close. PAUL KLEIST. 13 min. F.S. This is a fantastic act, full of surprises and nonsense that got considerable laughter and applause throughout. Good musician on the violin, xylophone, etc. Made a good close. MELVILLE & HIGGINS. 21 min. in one. Advance applause. Their new act includes a little of their old one and is fully as bright and witty. Made a strong finish and compelled to give an encore to their "Have a Heart" song. ARTHUR SULLIVAN & CO. "Straight." 15 min. F.S. This is a typical crook sketch, well-written, and while simple in theme, nevertheless held the interest of the audience from start to close. Sullivan is convincing in the role of an ex-convict, and is very well supported. Closed strong with the surprise climax. FRANK FOGARTY. 17 min. in one. Advance applause. Always a great favorite here. A ripping good lot of Irish stories put over in his characteristic manner, and some songs that also got the big hand. Closed very big. As a novel finish, use an Irish clog-dancer and the stage property hands which got a big hand. GARDINER TRIO. 11 min. F.S., close in one. The prettiest dancing act of its kind ever seen here, and a positive treat. Applause after each special number and the close in one with the "Texas Tommy Dance" was very strong. A beautiful act that could not fail to make a hit anywhere. MARIE DRESSLER. 14 min. F.S. Big advance applause. whatever Miss Dressler would do would be bound to get laughter and applause from all parts of the house, but her line of material is exceptionally good and she puts it over in great shape. A smashing big finish and compelled to make a little speech which she did very neatly, making fun of her putting on flesh, etc. CARL EUGENE TROUPE. 8 min. F.S. A great acrobatic combination and a stunning big closer for any show. All expert ground-tumblers; the two boys getting particularly big applause for their three-high shoulder-to-shoulder somersaults. Big applause all the way through and a fine close. PATHE WEEKLY. Usually interesting current event film. GENERAL REMARKS. Show gathers strength with the third act, and went on to success. Hits by Dressler, Fogarty and the Gardiner Trio. should pull well for balance of the Championship Week. CUTS HILLMAN & ROBERTS: The staggering of Miss Roberts; expression "sounds like Held" and the monkey imitation. MELVILLE & HIGGINS: Expression "Vulgar Nethersole."
