21 CRITICISM OF 1ST SHOW. PHILADELPHIA. OCT. 13TH. Stereopticon - Sheet - 10 mins. - Interesting. Webb Trio - 6 mins. - garden in four - Up to the average three-a-day act of this kind. - 3 shows. Hollman - 3 shows - 15 mins. - C. D.- Rather below the average "small" magician. carroll 7 Ellston - 3 shows - 18 mins. -C. D. - Of slight value the good being man's burlesque magic; turn not Keith-like and below our three-a-day standard, owing chiefly to woman Lozelle - 3 shows - 9 mins. - Own set - First rate exhibition of its kind with a stirring finish. Orchestra - Filled its tile acceptably. Burke's Dogs - did not turn up. Eddie Mack - 3 shows - 11 mins. - St. in one - The first to arouse the house; earned general applause and not a little laughter. Libbey & Trayer - 3 shows - 19 mins. - C. D. - Good vocal team and received with decided favor. Les Frasettis - 2 shows - 12 mins. - C. D. - Rank well among straight instrument turns, but do nothing to arouse enthusiasm. The Brittons - 3 shows - 11 mins. - Fancy in one - A hit; apparently the most popular act working in one in this hosw. pony Ballet - 2 shows - 9 mins. - Palace in four - Although the girls apparently worked as hard as formerly, there was a decided drop in the value of the turn; girls not so attractive as they were on former visit. They might have gone better had not so much dancing preceeded them. Nevertheless a bunch of xxxx young and shapely girls is xxxx a good thing in any variety show. Kittie Mitchell - 2 shows - 12 mins. - fancy in one - Scarcely entitled to "very good" classification. Charley Grapewin & Co. - 2 shows - 29 mins. - Box set - For several minutes prospects seemed not so good; but thereafter went as well as ever it did with frequent outbursts of general and hearty laughter; most valuable act in show. Julian Rose - 2 shows - 14 mins. - fancy in one - Went very well considering his place on the bill. Probably stronger than Dandy Stack & Milton - 2 shows - 7 mins. - garden in four - First rate triple bar act, and, while they do nothing that has not been done before, the team has few equals; provoked general applause frequently. Biograph - 4 shows - 11 mins. - Sheet - Perhaps above its average. COMMENT: Show is, perhaps, not up to the average in value. JOHN J. KEIRANS.
