24 NEW YORK SHOW: WEEK OCTOBER 20th: ---------------- STEREOPTICON:- Good selection of views: 12 minutes in one. MH-3, JUGGLING DOYLE:- This is a young man whoi has the regulation juggling act. There is nothing particularly startling or novel about his work, but what he does do he accomplishes neatly and cleanly, and it makes a very acceptable three-show-a-day act. 12 mins. full stage, close in one. Could easily work in two, if necessary. HR-3, EDDIE MACK:- Dancer: This young fellow has quite a novelty in the way of dancing, as he gives imitations of the different people while keeping perfect time with the music. He closes his act with a deicing representation of a baseball game, which makes quite a hit. 10 Mins. in 1. KR-3, REED & SHAW:- ring act. This is a very good act indeed and they do several tricks that are in the line of novelty. There is a little comedy vein running through the act which makes it more attractive. 11 minutes, full stage. HR3, LILLIAN SHAW:- Character singer. Rather a pretty girl who opens with a coon song and then makes a change and sings some Hebrew parodies. The act went fairly well this afternoon and much better to-night on account of the City audience. This is a very acceptable three-show act, especially for New York. 11 minutes, in one. GRR-3, BURKE'S DOGS:- This act ranges from fair to good until it comes to the finish where the dogs play the sleigh bells, and I think in that they excel any dog act that I have ever seen. went very strong this afternoon. Took three curtain calls and played a different selection each time. 13 minutes, full stage. NR-3, MURPHY & SLATER:- Tow men, (colored) and I think about the best colored team from a comedy standpoint since Williams and Walker. The little comedian is genuinely funny and de does some remarkably clever eccentric dancing. 15 minutes, in one. HRR-2, FADETTE ORCHESTRA:- Another brilliant programme which was received with the usual enthusiasm. 28 minutes, full stage. NH-3, AURIE DAGWELL: Contralto: While this young lady does not make the pronounced hit here that she evidently does in other houses on the circuit she went extremely well, the greatest amount of interest being shown in her old-time Southern songs. 11 minutes, in one. GHR-2, ROBERTS, HAYES & ROBERTS:- Two men and one woman in eccentric comedy sketch in which Roberts, (who is over six-feet tall), plays a child in the first part of the act, afterwards changing to a typical Western tough. The two straight people, man and woman, do some good dancing and the comedy end of it while ridiculous in the extreme, is not offensive and went very strong this afternoon. 20 minutes, opens full stage and closes in one. MRR-2, PONY BALLET:- This act is in much better shape than it was before. They have at last filled up the vacant places and eight girls appear in the act. They dance very nicely and showed some very pretty wardrobes. 9 minutes, full stage. YRR-2, R. J. JOSE:- Contra-tenor: went very nicely indeed this afternoon better in fact, I think, than I ever saw him go in this house before. He has a remarkable voice and knows how to use it. 11 minutes, in one. GNH-2, HUGH STANTON & CO:- In a sketch entitled "A Bargain Fiend". This act is funny and laughable on account of the situations and the theme, which appeals to everyone, it being a satire on the bargain craze. It got a lot of laughs this afternoon and the climax with Mr. Stanton bringing in the old horse, was a tremendous hit. 26 minutes, full stage. GHR-2, CHAS. m. EARNEST:- The Philosophical Tramp: He has a line of talk which although all of it is old, is still given with an unctious manner and about everything he said made a hit. He is a good singer and always was, and sings two or three songs acceptably. While not a great act it is thoroughly all right. 18 minutes, in one. YHR-2, O'BRIEN & HAVEL:- In their latest sketch entitled "Ticks and Clicks". This act is a vast improvement over the other one, being much stronger, and gives them a much better opportunity to show their dramatic ability. of which Miss Havel makes a rather unexpected display; in fact, she reads her lines remarkably well. They had rather a hard place this afternoon on the bill for a talking act and I have moved them up in the night show, so that they will go undoubtedly even better this evening. 20 minutes, full stage. KR-3, BIOGRAPH:- Usual collection of views. 12 minutes, in one. S. K. HODGDON.
