New York Show: Week November 17th: Stereopticon:-- Usual collection of views: 10 minutes in one HR-3, Pelot:-- Kid Juggler: This is really one of the best opening acts that we have had in many a day. This young fellow makes up as a "rube" kid, and while his actual juggling is only about the same as the ordinary performer i this line, [brossed out: but] he is so good natured about his work that he wins the audience from the start, and he makes a lot of fun by having people in the audience throw apples which he catches on a fork. An exceptionally good 3-show-a-day act. 12 minutes; full stage; close in 1 NH-3, Howley & Leslie:-- These people are always good here. They are both excellent dancers and the woman does a really clever bit of character work in her child impersonations. 15 Mins. opens full stg; close in 1 KR-3, The Lucados:-- Equilibrists and balancers: Man and woman. They are young people and do a very clever clean-cut act. The man of course, does the greater part of the work. He balances chairs, tables and etc. and also does some work with a heavy cart wheel, the closing feature of their tricks being the balancing of a bicycle on a bar which he holds in his teeth while the woman is sitting astride of it working the peddles. Very good act. 11 minutes, full stage. HR-3, Pauline Saxon:-- Character songs and impersonations. A young girl who appears first in a little impersonation called "Sis Perkins" it being after the "Sis Hopkins" type and pretty well done. Makes change and does a straight song and finishes with scare-crow dance. Not an important act by any means, but still very acceptable considering the scarcity of good turns in one. 8 minutes, in one. GYH-3, Lew Simmons & Frank White:-- in their old act "Get on the Band Wagon", the only one that I have ever seen them do which amounts to anything. They had a new one but I don't like it as well as the old act, which always goes well here, and this afternoon was no exception to the rule. 19 minutes; full stage. GRR-3, Sailor & Barbaretto:-- Man and woman in a singing turn, the woman appearing first singing "The Maid of Dundee", the man following with a straight song, and then the woman appears in pajamas and they sing the Pajama song together. They are both very good singers and while the act went all right I don't think it caught on as well as it did in the other two houses. Can be called a good singing turn, however. 14 Mins. in 1. GHR-2, Chris. Bruno & Mabel Russell:-- Singing, dancing and comedy act. These people dress very neatly, sing fairly well and dance exceptionally good. There is not a very great amount of comedy in the act but what there is is all right, and the whole turn is a very pleasing one. 15 Mins. full stg. GRR-3, Fyne & Dandy:-- Regulation acrobatic comedy act by two men. They are both fairly good acrobats and the act is especially valuable as a 3-show-a-day turn. 10 Minutes; full stage. HR-2, Clarence E. Billings:-- This is a young club entertainer from Boston, who was recommended to me very strongly by Will M. Cressy. There is no mistake about it, he has got a lot of bright original stuff and knows how to tell it, and during the first part of his act he had the audience laughing about as hard as I have ever heard them in this house, at a monologue performer. Everything he does is original, and he has three bright new songs evidently written by himself, which are both brilliant and catchy. He was handicapped terribly this afternoon by his nervousness, which was only natural, as this is his first vaudeville engagement; and he does not keep up to the standard maintained during the first two-thirds of the act. There is no question but what he is going to make a valuable performer. He works in Yankee make-up and has the Yankee dialect perfect. 16 minutes in one. MRR-2, Fred Hallen & Mollie Fuller: Presenting Geo M. Cohen's latest sketch "Election Bets," which I consider the best thing Hallen has ever done in vaudeville. The situations are funny and the theme appeals to everybody who is interested in elections. The act went very strong from start to finish. 20 minutes; full stage. GRR-2, Clarice Vance:-- Coon songs. She had three new songs and one old one, and it goes without saying that she made the same impression here that she always does, which is very good. 11 minutes, in one. YRR-2, Ryan & Richfield:-- in "Mag Haggerty's Father". Went stronger this afternoon than it ever went before in this house. The audience fairly screamed at some of the situations. 28 minutes; full stage. GHR-2, Ed. Latell:-- Blackface musical comedian. Always a favorite in this house, and he went this afternoon as strong as ever. 25 Mins. in 1. GNH-2, The Andreaessens:-- A couple of European acrobats. They did a good act but a very short one. There is nothing about their performance that cannot be done by the majority of our American acrobats, still their work is clean and done with that finish that distinguishes all of the European artists, and I imagine that they will go still better when they get off of their sea legs, as they did not land until Saturday. 6 minutes; full stage. KR-3, Biograph:-- Very good selection of views this week. 12 Mins. in 1. S.K. Hodgdon.
