New York Show: Week December 8th: Stereopticon:- Usual selection of views: 12 minutes in one. KR-3, Zarnes Duo:- Man and woman in the regulation ring performance. They are good clean looking people and do their work cleverly, and it makes a very good 3-show-a-day act. 12 minutes; full stage. GRR-3, Howard & Burke:- Two men in a talking act-- one of them made up eccentric and the other straight. They have an original way of working, and while not particularly strong they go very well indeed, and I think will go much better when they get a decent audience to work to, the audience being very dead this afternoon. 13 minutes, in one. NH-3, Tom Almond:- Long shoe dancer. This is the same fellow who has been over the circuit once before and made quite an impression by dancing in long shoes, which is something of a novelty. His act was affected this afternoon on account of the non-arrival of the pedestal on which he dances at the finish of his turn. It is a good act throughout. 7 Mins. in 2 GRR-3, Paloma Ladies Quartet:- This is a singing quartette of four neatly dressed and fair looking women. They have very good voices and their selections are well chosen. One woman of the four has a contralto voice of rather remarkable power. 11 minutes in one. GRR-3, Howard & Linder:- Man and woman in a comedy and musical act. The woman plays rag-time on a piano and hte man does a very good violin solo. He makes up as a Dutchman and his comedy is not particularly brilliant. He sings a song, however, near the close of his act called "Bohemia" which makes quite a hit, and the woman also sings an original song that pleased. 16 minutes; open full stage, close in one. NR-3, Cherry & Bates:- Comedy bicycle act by two men, one of them made up straight and the other as a tramp. This is a very good act throughout, both of them being expert cycle riders, and the comedian is funny without being offensive. 13 minutes; full stage. GYH-2, Lena Thurber:-& Picks:- Tall woman with a fairly good voice and two very good coons. They can hardly be called pickaninnies as they are both nearly full grown. Not much music in their voices, but they sing with a good deal of unction, and the act made quite a hit. 14 Mins. in 1. YRR-2, Techow's Trained Cats:- Always a very pleasing act. 18 Mins. full stg NN-3, Hal Merritt:- Imitations, stories and crayon work. This performer always goes well on any place in the bill. 19 minutes in one. GRR-2, Lillian Western:- Musical. Always very strong. 15 minutes; open full stage, close in one. MRR-2, Mary Norman:- Society caricaturist. Miss Norman is doing the same act exactly that she did a few years ago, and while she is unquestionably the cleverest artist in her line somehow the act did not seem to go as well this afternoon as formerly. I attribute it however, to the dull audience and anticipate that she will do much better to-night. 15 minutes; full stage. YHR-2, Cushman, Holcomb & Curtis:- About the same act that they have always done, although they have given it a new name and called it "A Winter session." It introduces the school-room scene and there is some new talk and new songs. The act went very nicely indeed. 26 minutes; open full stage, close in one. YRR-2, John Kernell:- Kernell came on with a new bunch of material this afternoon and although he had an extremely hard place on the bill he pleased the audience immensely. He is certainly strong in this house. 16 minutes, in one. YHR-2, The 3 Yoscareys: Acrobatic comedians. A very strong act, both from the standpoint of gymnastic work and comedy. 15 minutes; full stg. KR-3, Biograph: Fair collection of views this week. 12 minutes in one. S. K. Hodgdon.
