(M.J. Keating) Stereoptican, 2 shows, 12 min. in one--Very good selection of views. Forrester & Floyd, 2 shows, 16 min., open full stage close in 1--Comedy and singing act, by a man and woman. It went very well as opening act, after the stereopticon, and in my opinion is better than that of Howard and Linder, who are further down, and with whom I will change them. Ranzetta and Belair, 2 show, 10 min. in 3--Very fair acrobatic comedy act by 2 men, one working straight and the other in tramp make-up. They are all right for early place in the bill. Howard and Linder, 2 shows, 17 min.; open in 3 close in 1--German dialect comedy and some violin playing by the man, Howard, and some fair singing by the woman, who got the most applause in the act. The Laskys, 2 shows, 13 min. in 1--Selections on brass instruments, with some indifferent vocalism, and a number of pretty costume changes, by the young man and woman. The act went better with the audience than I thought its merit deserved. Lorimer Johnston and Miss Cook, 2 shows, 17 min., full stage--This act, which was substituted for that of Mr. and Mrs. Clay Clement, who refused to on at 2:18 P.M., went surprisingly well, and we feel ourselves the gainers by the enforced change. The sketch is bright in dialogue and has many amusing situation, and got lots of laughter all the way through. The ending is a bit tame, but is logical. John Bowker, 2 shows, 17 min., in one--Presenting his travellogue "Contrasta", which is interesting and humorous, but not so much so as some others he has given in the past, but has more beautiful illustrations Was Listened to intensively throughout, and had a hearty round of applause at the finish. Bapoli, 2 shows, 20 min., open 1j[?] 3 close in 1--This man is quite skilful in what he does, but, with the exception of one trick, where he balances 2 cues and 2 billaird balls on his chin, he has nothing to offer that is new or original. His feats were performed with the grace that characterizes all European artists of his class. I think he is overpaid by about $125. Will Matthews and Nellie Harris, 2 shows, 25 min., full stage--In their old sketch, "Adam the Second", which really went with as much hurrah and laughter as it has ever done. So long as that is the case, I don't know why we should offer any "holler". Charlie Case, 2 shows, 16 min. in one--This blackface comedian and singer, always a strong feature here, went as well as ever today. He was given a reception that proved his popularity, as soon as he came on, and won laughter all through his act. Edwin Keough and Dorothy Ballard, 2 shows, 27 min., open full stage, close in 1--First time here in their new transformation act, "A vaudeville Surprise", which is unquestionably the best kind offered in vaude- [new page] (M. J. Keating) ville, and they scored a bit hit. It offers something new in its changes and the people fully appreciate the fact. Worth all they are getting. Brothers Freydo, 2 shows, 10 min., full stage--Greatest acrobatic act of this class ever seen on stage here, and made a tremendous hit from start to finish. Will be the talk of the town before the week is out. John and Bertha Gleason, 2 shows, 12 min. in 1--Neatest dancing act in vaudeville. They cannot sing but the audience forgive them because of their excellence in pedal work. Seona, 2 shows, 13 min. in 3--Impersonator of famous men of past and present. He makes a terrible bluff in imitating Henry Lee, but is so far behind him as to make a comparison the question. His impersonations are chestnutty, and I do not consider him in the star class of the show at all. Nellie Parker, 2 shows, 15 min. in 1--This girl shows notable improvement in her work, and is now in pretty good voice. She makes 4 changes in costume, and is enough to work in the early 2 show section, as the orchestra is a tremendous help in such as act as hers. Belmont and O'Brien, 2 shows, 15 min. open in 3 close in 1--Comedy singing act and of fair merit. Comments, ;--The show, on the whole is about of average value, the most important criticism that there is too much talking in the middle of the programme, and not enough "sight" acts in the bill. The change which eliminates the customary supper show, seemed to work well, so far as we could judge from the opening day, for the audience seemed to hold longer than usual. We will not be able to tell anything definite about it for a week or more however. There was a larger attendance than usual on the first day of the week, in all parts of the theatre, and a little more enthusiasm.
