338 KEITH'S BIJOU CRITICISM WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 21ST, 1903. STEREOPTICOM: Unusually interesting. THE ROUSELLES: Acceptable opener, 3 shows, 10 minutes, palace 4. MURPHY & ANDREWS: Food, and would make good further down on the average other bill; 16 minutes, 3 shows, street 1. AL COLEMAN: Very good from a three a day standpoint; reminds one of Frank Bush; good imitations; 15 minutes; olio 1; three shows. WORDETTE & KUSEL: Shares honors with the headline act. One of the best turns in vaudeville;away from the beaten track, and would delight any audience; many two a day acts not so good. 19 minutes, C. D. Fancy; 3 shows. NICE TWINS: An enjoyable singing turn despite the boy's swagger; act is better than it used to be, too. 12 minutes, drapery 1; three shows. DALY & DEVERE: One of the best comedy turns in the business; first time in my recollection that it has had a good place on the bill, and they made good; age has not staled it. 18 minutes C. D. Fancy; 3 shows. LONEY HASKEL: Quite difficult for him to arouse the audience following Daly & Devere, but later on demonstrated his right to his position on the programme. Nevertheless, some of his stuff was of a three a day sort, and his manner at times was anything but winning; would give one the idea that he was above the heads of the audience. 18 min. street 1. THE HOOVERS: Good juggling, but man's imitation of Harrigan's work rather ineffective. 18 minutes; garden 4; close 1, 3 minutes, 2 shows. GRACE LA RUE & PICKS: Scarcely up to two a day standard; pickaninnies not a success as comedians. 18 minutes; landscape 4, close 1, 2 min. 2 s. LESLIE BROTHERS: Musically, one of the finest of acts; comedy weak. 16 minutes; C.D. Fancy; two shows. MOORE & LITTLEFIELD: Probably equal in comedy value to any other headline comedy act; think comparative novelty like this might beheld for another week. A hit. 2 shows; 30 min. G.D.F. turned drop 1, 9 minutes, garden 4, close 1, 4 minutes. RICE & ELMER: Excellent as to acrobatic and comedy work. 12 min,Car.4, 2 s. COMMENT: With such a show as this it is easy to feel assurred that the Bijou is itself again, and that former conditions of business must surely ensue. The show is the thing that makes the house successful, and with the quality provided this week there need be no doubt as to what the business is likely to be. Not an uninteresting act on the bill -- enjoyable to even those surfeited with vaudeville entertainment. Never sagged until it reached the Hoovers and Miss LaRue and the pickaninnies, and these will be all right when properly placed. John J. Keirans.
