6 C. E. BARNS PHILADELPHIA SHOW. SEPT. 23, 1912 CHARLES WEBER. 14 min. in one. Makes an excellent opener. Dresses in tramp costume. Carries a funny advertising sign and comes out in a burlesque automobile. Juggles balls, hats and other things very cleverly but the best part of his work is the comedy that he introduces. The apple-throwing stunt got immense applause. His plate-twirling stunt at the finish is a novelty and gave him a strong closing hand. A new act from the West that is recommended for any house on the circuit. GORDON HIGHLANDERS. 15 min. F. S., close in one. Held this spot in great shape. This set has been seen here before and made thoroughly good as they did on this occasion. Could hold a better spot on any bill. LINTON & LAURENCE. 17 min. F. S. Same set as given here before and went very strong from start to finish. Laughter and applause throughout and closed to big applause. SAM HARRIS. 14 min. in one. Started off rather slow but gathered strength as he went on and got the audience with him, holding them right to a fine finish. Compelled to give an encore. MAXINI BROS. & "BOBBY." 11 min. F. S. This is a comedy acrobatic act which is much out of the ordinary. Two men do good risley stunts but the comedy is almost entirely with the fex terrier which is very well trained. Gets laughter all the way through up to a good finish. Held the spot in fine shape. DEVINE & WILLIAMS. 16 min.in one. These two people made a hit with this crowded house this afternoon, all their work being original and going very strong. Closed big. VIRGINIA HARNED & CO. 24 MIN. That Miss Harned is popular in Philadelphia was shown this afternoon when she opened to a house crowded to the doors. The version of her new play, "The Call of Paris," that she gave us here in Philadelphia today was absolutely satisfactory in every way. It does not contain a suggestive line or situation and this version can be played with success in any vaudeville house in America. Her company is good and the little play carried the interest of the audience right on from an advance hand to a very good finish. As legitimate names and sets go, Miss Harned as a headliner will prove a most emphatic success. BERT FITZGIBBON. 22 min.in one. Was a riot this afternoon and the audience was loth to let him go. Compelled to respond to several encores. Closed very big. FILLIS FAMILY. 6 min. Makes a fine closing act. Three beautiful horses, beautifully trained, well handled and the set is showman-like in every particular. Received applause throughout and held the crowd to the finish. KINETOGRAPH. As good a travel film as we have had, which is saying that it was entirely satisfactory. GENERAL REMARKS. This show might be termed "A Surprise Show of the Season," as on paper it did not look exceptionally strong, but it played off this afternoon like a whirlwind. This show is full of comedy, getting a flying start with Weber and continuing right down to the finish. Acts outside of Miss Harned that particularly scored is their position this afternoon were three that were brand new to out audience and I think have played very little in the East. In the order of their success, I should say Devine & Williams, Charles Weber and Sam Harris. In fact, every act on the bill scored in its position. Miss Harned proved her strength as a headliner by giving us an absolute capacity audience to open to, which promises well for a big week. CUTS SAM HARRIS. Expression "Damn your soul, you have tried to drown me." Reference to "landing of feet." BERT FITZGIBBON. Expression "My God."
