190 C. E. BARNS. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. JAN. 27, 1913. ADONIS & DOG. 10 min. F.S. This act has been presented here before but never so well, being artistic and thoroughly showman-like. Makes a very good opener. The man's contortion work is exceptional and the dog is wonderfully trained. LAURA BUCKLEY. 12 min. in one. A clever entertainer who held this spot on the bill very acceptably with character studies, such as, the manicure girl, the department-store demonstrator, etc. Received good applause. All right for an early spot. FRANK HARTLEY. 11 min. F.S. This young man is a good showman and knows how to put a whole lot of ginger in his given time. Dresses well and has showy paraphernalia. Every one of his stunts got a good hand and made a fine close. HOMER LIND. 24 min. open and close Full Stage. A thoroughly enjoyable number. There is enough comedy in the act to relieve the pathetic portions, and the musical features received a big hand. Closed strong. BILLY McDERMOTT. 20 min. in one. This man's material is good and his method takes with the crowd. Got them laughing right from the start and kept them going right up to the big finish. All of his stuff is new and good. Held this spot in fine shape and could hold any place on the bill with credit where an act in one is wanted. Closed with the Toreador burlesque to big applause. As an encore, gave the best caricature of Sousa & Creatore leading a band ever given here. WIRTH FAMILY. 10 min. F.S. This is one of the greatest equestrian acts we have every played. May Wirth is a perfect marvel on horseback and does the most daring stunts besides making a beautiful appearance with fine white horses. A circus-like act throughout. Big applause and a strong finish. JENNINGS & SMITH. 20 min. in one. Advance applause for Jennings. Hughie is very fortunate to have a good comedian like blackface minstrel Ben Smith to put ginger in his act. The latter puts over a good line of stuff both in song and story having a very good tenor voice. Jennings' baseball anecdotes got a good hand, and on the whole, the act made good in the spot. "THE SYSTEM." 43 min. This act made a strong impression as a picture of the underworld. Granville & Pierpont are well supported and their melodramatic effect was well carried out, holding the audience to the finish. The good reports of this act have been fully justified. KINETOGRAPH. "The Pony Express Girl." A good Kalim film. The running order of the show at night was revised as follows and went much stronger:- A Orchestra B Adonis C Laura Buckley D Frank Hartley E Homer Lind F Jennings & Smith G The System H Billy McDermott I Wirth Family J. Kinetograph K EXIT MARCH
