231 Report on PROVIDENCE SHOW, Week of February 24, 1913. CHAS. LOVENBERG, Manager. The show this week proved better as a whole than I had hoped it might. It is classy, and while the audience this afternoon, in no case, gave any unusual demonstrations of enthusiasm, nevertheless, everything seemed to please. The only real fall down, from the standpoint of expectation, was that of Felix & Caire. NORRIS' BABOONS This splendid act started the show going in great shape. Their work is very unusual and there is a lot of good comedy in it. A very good act to play anywhere in almost any spot on the bill. 15 Min. F.S. ROBT. EMMETT KEANE A very clean-cut classy young fellow, who tells a number of stories in English dialect and sings a couple of songs of a similar nature, all well rendered and well received. He concludes with a recitation that sent him off to a good hand. A far better act than I had been led to expect. I am inclined to believe he will do much better in other cities than in New York. Probably he hasn't got quite enough ginger for the New York audiences. 15 Min. in One. FELIX & CAIRE Their old act, which is practically the same as they have been doing for a number of years, containing one or two new imitations. In the old days when they were looked upon as children, and Felix was particularly small, the act had value; now that they have grown to young man and young woman, their work is not so effective; besides which, Felix has a particularly offensive personality. The first part of the act dragged and they closed only fairly well. 15 Min Open F. S. Close about 3 Min. in One. GRACE VAN STUDDIFORD Well-known comic opera prima donna, who pleased the audience much better than she did me. 11 Min. F. S. Usually works in One. WOOD & WYDE In an improvement over the many flirtation acts that we have had. Next to Miss Barrymore, this is the best act of the bill, and was so recognized by the audience. The act, as presented here today, is absolutely clean, containing absolutely no offensive features. The people are both clever, their material good and they scored a distinct success. 17 Min. in One. ETHEL BARRYMORE & CO. There is no need to dwell upon Miss Barrymore's sketch or her ability. I just want to mention that we have the biggest advance sale ever in the history of vaudeville in Providence and thousands of people are clamoring for seats, who will not be able to get them. With Miss Tanguay - the opposition up the street - there were on Saturday and this morning, plenty of seats to be had and it didn't look as if she was going to do any business to talk about, in spite of tremendous billing. Our advertising is a little more than ordinary. My only fear is that we will turn away so many people that in their desire to go somewhere, and nothing else of consequence in town, we are going to help Miss Tanguay's business, Miss Barrymore's act was received most cordially. 27 Min. F. S. At 7 o'clock tonight there were plenty of seats available in all parts of the house for the Tanguay show tonight - we are sold out for the week. VAN & SCHENCK Two young men in a piano act and dialect songs, somewhat different from the ordinary and no better than many others we have had; something of a disappointment to me, although they went well with the audience, still by no means a riot. 18 Min. in One. MARLO TRIO Straight and comedy bar act; a good act that made a fitting close to a satisfactory show. 8 Min. F.S. MOTION PICTURES O. K.
