F. BARNS. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. DEC. 18, 1911. THREE ESCARDOS. 6 min.F.S. Three young men who make a fine appearance in athletic costumes. Begin their work with some ground tumbling and then proceed to their work on the bounding table. This is very strong and original and every feat gets a good hand. Closed well. This act could hold a strong spot on any bill. MOTION PICTURES OF THE WORLD'S SERIES. 8 min. The major portion of these pictures was the Championship Game which took place in Philadelphis. Of course, was well applauded all the way through. KELLY & LAFFERTY. 14 min.F.S, close in one. This is a very novel act, beggining with some songs which are fairly good and proceed to eccentric dancing which is very good, including tee dancing which gets a big hand. The work in one with their own drop and the shadow effect is particularly commendable and gave them a strong closing hand. FIVE MUSICAL GIRLS. 20 min.F.S. Make a fine appearance and render popular selections very acceptably, getting a good hand after each one. Miss Churchill with the drums and traps made the hit of the act, closing strong and demanding an encore. Held the spot in great shape. WYNN & RUSSON. 15 min.in one. Big advance hand. This Wynn's home town and everrything that he did went very strong. Great line of material delivered in his usual bouyancy, employing his funny hat to help get the laughs. Kept the audience in in good humer and closed very strong. MIDDLETON, SPELLMYER & CO. "Texas Wooing." 15 min.F.S. This melodrama was played here two years ago and was a success and duplicated its popularity today. Carry thier own scene which is effective, and the sketch is well written. Middleton's baritone solo got a good hand. Closed well. NELLIE NICHOLS. 12 min.in one. Miss Nichols' character songs caught the crowd very well this afternoon and each one of them got a good hand. HAs a good selection of material and puts it over in good shape. Her nationalyity song went very big and gaver her three curtain calls. BENDER, COOMBS & MORGAN. 28 min.F.S. "Learning the Game." A capacity house certainly gave this act a tremendous reception today. It was nothing but laughter and applause from start to finish. They have a very good act, full of comedy, some good songs and technical work which got immense applause. At the close, each one of the three was compelled to make a speech. This act is sure to more than duplicate the success which has met it everywhere. WALTER C. KELLY. 22 min.in one. Big advance hand. The most of Kelly's stuff is new and all of it in his peculiar vein and caught the crowd immensely. He could easily have held this diffecult spot for twice the length of time, as he is a great favorite here. Kelly stands alone in his class. His act is thoroughly individual and full of real live and clean character humor. Cosed immense. VALLECITA'S LEOPARDS. 10 min. A beautiful trained animal act which makes a fine closer for any show. The animals are fine specimens and the woman has trained them well, putting them through their various tricks without undue use of the whip. Good applause throughout and a strong finishing hand. KINETOGRAPH. The usual good series of Pathe Weekly. GENERAL REMARKS. This is one of the best playing shows we have had in the house this season, and aside from the fact that the big acts are all well known Philadelphians, the show would pull out on its merits alone. We opened this afternoon to a sellout and we are sold out again tonight. The advance sale for the balance of the week is very heavy and there is no question but what despite the fact that this is supposed to be the worst week of the theatrical season, as far as we are concerned it will be one of the biggest weeks of the year.
