TRENT THEATRE CRITICISM, WEEK OF FEBRUARY 19, 1912 By J. F. Clancy RUSSELL BROTHERS This is a mighty good aerial act and a corking good number with which to open a show. After seeing the bill this afternoon we discovered that it was absolutely necessary to move Houdini a little further up on the program and we put the Russells down to closing, where they went extremely well. MAE FRANCIS A clever little woman and very good value for the money we are paying her. Sang five songs at the afternoon performance and got away with them. TOM BARRY & CO Comedy sketch, entitled "Nick Carter." Second appearance here of this act and it went very well. KAUFMAN BROTHERS Black face entertainers. Work in "one." These boys opened up a little poorly but after they got under way they had the audience with them and received a big reception at the finish. INTERMISSION MYLES MC CARTEY & CO Comedy sketch, entitled "A Yellow Streak." This is a very long drawn-out act with the laughs few and far between. For the rest of the week Mr. McCarthy will open the show. MARSHALL MONTGOMERY Mr. Montgomery received more applause this afternoon than any other act on the bill. He was accorded a tremendous reception upon his entrance and at the finish the crowd did not seem inclined to let him leave the stage. HOUDINI, "THE HANDCUFF KING" This is the first appearance at this theatre of this most talked of entertainer. We discovered this afternoon that closing the show was no place for an act of this character, and beginning with the night show we moved him up to the position of opening the second half. We advertised Houdini very big during the past two weeks and I expect he will draw quite some business.
