C. E. BARNS PHILADELPHIA SHOW. APRIL 8, 1912. GREAT RICHARDS: 10 min:F.S. Well known on the circuit. Until his unmasking, the audience did not realize that Richards is a man, and the finish with the variegated lights was very taking, winning a strong hand. Makes a very acceptable opener. LEON T. ROGEE.7 min. in one. Gave his well-known imitations of the trombone, cello, piccolo, etc., all of which received good applause. Makes a good appearance and the novelty of his act seemed to catch the crowed just as strong as on previous engagements here. Closed well. HAVILAND & THORNTON. 21 min.F.S., close in one, if necessary. This act did not seem to catch on very strong at first but gathered strength as it went on and proved itself very acceptable for this spot on the bill. The comedy is good, and the vocal numbers, although a little shy on music, are good in humor and got the applause from the holiday crowd. On the whole, held this spot in good shape. WARD BROS. 13 min. in one. These boys have a novelty act that is very clever with bright lines and a good eccentric dance. A lot of amusing patter which gets the laugh, and that is what the people want. Both boys are well dressed and make a good impression. All right for a middle spot on the bill. Closed strong after their eccentric dance. W. C. FIELDS. 22 min. F.S. A bit laughing hit from start to finish. He never was so expert in his juggling and never so funny as he is now. Introduced a lot of new stuff which had the audience convulsed. Whatever he does has the mark of the finished entertainer. His encore was the funniest of all, and his closing hand was immense. There is no spot on any bill that Fields could not hold with great credit. LAMBERT & BALL. 20 min. in one. Advance applause. This act was substituted for Miss Ritchie, and if applause counts for anything, it is certain that the change was all for the better. Everything they offered was new and good, and went with dash and go that was very refreshing, winning immense applause. Miss Lambert made three changes of costume, all of them very effective, and won the crowd from the very first. The audience was loth to let them go, and they closed with their "Lullaby" encore to big applause. "IN 1999." 19 min. F.S. A very amusing sketch that everybody seemed to appreciate judging from the liberal applause all the way through. Has been commented on from elsewhere, and the good things that have been said about it were found thoroughly justified by our holiday crowd today. A very original sketch, delightfully presented and will be the hit for the balance of the week. Closed well. HENRY CLIVE. 17 min. in one. Clive received an advance hand, and his work is clever and better than ever before. Introduced some new stunts, including "levitation" which got big laughter and applause. Closed very well. Held this hard spot splendidly. ROLFE'S "COURTIERS." 25 min. Made a very strong closing act for this afternoon presented as previously with few variations and everything brilliant, snappy and showmanlike right up to the patriotic finish. The holiday crowd stayed in for it and gave every number liberal applause. KINETOGRAPH. "Brave and Bold." A very amusing comedy film. GENERAL REMARKS. This show played off immensely to a capacity house without a hitch. Adele Ritchie was never missed for a minute and business will be good, as we have got the show and the weather to give us every encouragement.
