REPORT ON COLUMBUS SHOW WEEK APRIL 15, 1912--W.W. PROSSER. THE STANLEYS: Mechanical shadowgraph number which proved a novel entertainment. Won applause and made a satisfactory opener. Special in 1 1/2, 9 min. (Pittsburgh) ELLIS & McKENNA: Well-known singing team who did very well throughout, finishing moderately strong. Olio and street in one, 13 minutes. (Team goes abroad) ROLAND CARTER & CO: "In Vacation Time". Three men in a singing and talking act. This number is very similar to Sidney Dean's "Christmas On the Island", but not nearly so meritorious. There were quite a number of good laughs, but there was too much superfluous talk, apparently. All in all the number was fairly good, scoring a strong finish. (Dayton) COLONIAL SEPTETTE: Three men and three women in "An Old Time Halloween Party". A fair musical offering and that is about all. No particular get-up-and-go to it. At all times the act is slow and uncertain. Pleased in a general way but not as a feature. Good finish. Specials in one and four. 21 min. (Dayton) MAY ELINORE: Did pretty well throughout, gaining laughter and some applause. Finish fair. Olio in one, 16 minutes. (Cincinnati) "IN 1999": One man and two women in a novel playlet of the future. This act is distinctly different from anything we have had for a long time. The idea of social conventions, customs etc. applying to the man instead of the woman is the nucleus from which are evolved any number of legitimate laughs. The act seemed to find instant favor with both sexes, and the women were especially delighted. Competant players present the offering. Won favor throughout and scored a strong finish. Was really the hit of the bill. C.D.F. in three, 16 minutes. (Detroit) MERRILL & OTTO: Man and woman in flirtation number "After The Shower". Their talk seemed to please pretty well although it was a bit drawn out. The finishing song and dance brought them around in good shape and they finished strong. Landscape in one, 18 minutes. (Syracuse) ASAHI TROUPE: Magic, Risley, etc. All of which went fairly well, making a moderately good closer. Jap acts are about played out here. Special in three, 19 minutes. MOTION PICTURE: Pathe Weekly, O.K. NOTE: The show as a whole is not nearly as entertaining as would appear on paper. It seems to lack spirit. I doubt whether it will draw any great amount of business.
