C. E. BARNS PHILADELPHIA SHOW MAY 27, 1912 RYAN & TUCKER 10 min in one. Makes an acceptable opener. The vocal work is only fair, but the eccentric dancing in costume and also straight was good and got a hand. Closed well. STICKNEYS LITTLE CIRCUS 10 min F.S. The clown on stilts in this act is a novelty and made the act. The girl trainer is pretty and graceful and the pony and dog work well together and got scattered applause. All right for a number two spot but not good enough for a very strong place. Closed fair. THREE VAGRANTS 13 min in one. This act is well known. Dress in grotesque costume and do the familar airs from the Operas and popular selections. Received fairly good applause for each number and closed well. All right for this spot on the bill but not strong enough for further down. HOWARD 20 min F.S Also well known on the circuit, doing his tooth-pulling, telephone and his usual ventriloquial work, eating, drinking and smoking. Got considerable laughter throughout and closed well. CLAAUDIUS AND SCARLETT 15 min in one. this act is a novelty and takes its interest on the way the old songs are played on the banjo with a song-sheet accompaniment. Got the audience singing and each one of the old time songs received applause. Closed exceptionally well. "AN OPENING NIGHT." 43 min open & clo F.S. Hobart has certainly made a very novel satire on a metropolitan opening night, introducing familiar characters and several surprises, including the game of "ZIM ZAM" which was enjoyed by the audience taking part. The musical numbers were very good, and of course the Hobart brand of humor is very much in evidence, getting constant laughter from all parts of the house. The character parts are unusually well chosen and the third scene is a gem. This is an act that is sure to be talked about. Closed very strong. WESTON FIELDS AND CARROLL 11 min in one. These three boys certainly put their songs over with lots of dash and spirit, using the latest ragtime material and doing it mighty well. Held this hard spot in great shape, receiving very liberal applause. Closed exceptionally strong. FOUR LONDONS. 7 min F.S. One of the greatest closing acts in the business. Every one of their feats is skilful and one or two of them are positive thrillers. Big applause after each feat and a very strong close. KINETOGRAPH "President Taft and His Cabinet" A very good and timely film. "HER LOST DANCING SLIPPERS" Good comedy. General Remarks. This is a good show, played off well, getting plenty of applause and without a weak spot or any necessity for a shift. B. F. KEITH'S THEATRE. BOSTON SHOW - WEEK MAY 27 - 1912. (R. G. Larsen.) (Monday night.) DEDIO'S CIRCUS. 14 minutes f.s. Garden. A very neat little act, with a pony, unrideable mule, dogs and monkeys. Opened the show in good shape. EDGAR BERGER. 9 minutes in two. Palace. This contortionist has a number of very good stunts, each of which was applauded. Closed to a good hand. THE KEMPS. 21 minutes in one. Landscape. Doing their new act, "Matrimonial Bliss," and getting away with it in very good shape. ROBERT DEMONT TRIO. 8 minutes f.s. C.D.F. Same lively tumbling act they have given us several times before, but going as well as ever with our audience. Woke things up in great shape. JAMES F. MacDONALD. 18 minutes in one. Street. This man has a very good line of songs, most of them new. Filled this position very acceptably. BURNS and FULTON. 11 minutes f.s. Plush cyclorama. A crackerjack dancing act, after the style of Kalmar and Brown. Both the man and woman are splendid dancers. They closed strong with their whirlwind dance. MAUDE LAMBERT and ERNEST BALL. 21 minutes in one. O.P. Drapery. Held this hard spot in great shape, winning a big hand after each number and closing very strong. JESSE L. LASKY'S "THE ANTIQUE GIRL." 34 minutes f.s. Special set. One of the prettiest of the Lasky acts, with all the additional charm of novelty in the story unfolded. Has an excellent cast, good comedy, catchy music, clever dancing, and a handsome stage setting. Made a satisfactory closing features. CUTS. Burns and Fulton - "Angel" song. Also business with shirt.
