C. E. BARNS. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. SEPT. 2, 1912. HATHAWAY'S MONKEYS. 11 min. F. S. One of the best monkey acts we have ever played and put on in good showman style. Have about fifteen monkeys that are all over the stage at once. Carry good paraphernalia, and the stunts that include tight rope walking, a dinner scene and an illuminated hurly burly at the finish got laughter and applause, particularly from the little folks. Closed big. Fine opening for a holiday show. BOYLE & BRAZIL. 10 min. in one. These young men started off rather tamely but gathered strength as they proceeded. Their dancing is very clever and got a good hand. Held the spot. METROPOLITAN MINSTRELS. 23 min. open in 1 1/2, goes to one, closes full stage. This is a well known Philadelphia juvenile act which has made a decided hit several times before, and went even better today. Their material is for the most part new, and all of it full of youthful ginger. Laughter and applause very strong with their finish with the bed scene and bugaboo song. JOSETTY BROS. 10 min. in one. This is certainly a skilful and swift-moving ground-tumbling act. All three work straight, although the heavyweight makes up in German comedy and gets a good many laughs. Every one of their feats got big applause and the closing work got an immense hand. LINDEN BECKWITH. 14 min. in one. Miss Beckwith is a favorite here and received advance applause. Sang four songs and gave an encore, everything being well applauded. "MORE SINNED AGAINST THAN USUAL." 39 min. This act certainly took the holiday crowd in great shape. The novelty of the burlesque mellerdrammer caught on immediately and it was a laughing hit all the way through. Closed very strong. DOOLEY & SAYLES. 25 min. in one. Made a very amusing entrance through the miniature stage of the preceding act. Introduced considerable new material during his familiar act, all of which went strong. In fact, was a big laughing hit in this spot with the holiday crowd. Stopped the show and was compelled to give several encores. APOLLO TRIO. 8 min. F. S. An acrobatic act that is entirely away from the ordinary strong-man features, carrying a fine plush drop, a pedestal and other paraphernalia, each figure being in the costume of polished bronze that makes a great impression under the lights. One of the best acts of this kind that we have ever played, and certainly an ideal closer for any house on the circuit. Feats for the most part new, all exceedingly difficult and getting immense applause, holding the audience up to a big finish. KINETOGRAPH. "Eddie's Exploit." Owing to a long show, this seven-minute comedy film is all that is necessary. It is very good. GENERAL REMARKS. This show played as if made to order for the crowded house that was in to witness it. It proved fast and funny from start to finish and there is no question but what the originality and cleverness of "More Sinned Against than Usual" will be town talk by tomorrow. CUTS J. FRANCIS DOOLEY: Expression "Undertaker drunk on his own bier." "MORE SINNED AGAINST THAN USUAL" Word "H---"
