GRAND OPERA HOUSE, PITTSBURGH. PA. JOHN P. HARRIS. SEPT. 2nd, 1912. MAXINI & BOBBY. Garden, full stage, 11 minutes. Acrobats introducing one of the cleverest dogs I have ever seen. We are opening the show with this act and it is really a hit. I consider them strong enough to go any place on the bill. PHIL STAATS. 14 minutes. Olio. Monologue, piano playing and songs. Somewhat disappointed in Mr. Staats. His material is very common and I would hesitate before recommending any place on the bill for him later than No. 2. "THE APPLE OF PARIS" Three scenes. Full stage. 16 minutes. A dramatic wordless playlet. One of the best things of its kind I have ever seen. Nine people, dressed well, a very good production and exceptionally good music. One of the best values we have had in a long while. EARL & CURTIS. 16 minutes, in Two. Open and close in one. Special drop. A singing, dancing and talking act. I consider this a very fair act; good enough for No. 3 or 4 on the bill. CALLAHAN & ST. GEORGE. In their old sketch, "The Old Neighborhood." Full stage, special, 22 minutes. This act is too well known to need any criticisms, except to say that it is going as well for us as on their former visits. EDDIE LEONARD & MABEL RUSSELL. 20 minutes. Olio. Blackface singing, dancing and talking. It is really too bad that Mr. Leonard insists on doing the dialogue. It would really be a clever act if they were to sing and dance and omit the dialogue. I am sure I would not care to play him again, unless he made the changes suggested. EDITH HELENA. Olio. 11 minutes. Prima Donna Soprano. Miss Helena has a very hard position on our bill, next to closing. She is a big hit at every performance. While she has played here three or four different times and always did well, I am sure that she is going bigger this time than ever. PICCHIANNI FAMILY. 10 minutes. Full stage. Comedy acrobats. The comedy in this act is not good. Aside from the comedy, the act is really great, far better than any similar act that we have played in a long while. MOVING PICTURES. Pathe weekly.
