B. F. KEITH'S HIPPODROME Week of Feb 23, 1914 Cleveland, Ohio All the rubes in Northern Ohio were in Cleveland yesterday and half of them were in the Hippodrome, trying to celebrate the death of George Washington. They applauded anything and everything from the entrance of the musicians to the raising and lowering of the olio. We will probably get our regular audience in to-day. THE TRANS-ATLANTIC TRIO - - A man and two girls doing some excellent banjo work. The man is an exceptional artist. It's a good act. (Columbus) CLAUDE GOLDEN - - Street in 1. 15 minutes. Seats himself in the audience and become his own "plant", while his assistant starts off the act from the stage. Golden then goes up on the stage and shows the assistant how to do some card tricks. He is very clever and got by nicely. (Lexington) CANTWELL & WALKER - - Man and woman. Special in 2. 12 minutes. Comedy sketch "Under the Gay White Lights". The sketch part is all right, but neither one of them can sing or dance, and under ordinary conditions, the act can be classed as only fair. (Richmond) MARIE McFARLAND & MARY - - 2 women. C.D.F. in 4. 7 minutes. Sang three songs of a program of nine. After the third song, they beat it for their dressing room, packed their trunks and headed for Washington, D.C. Refused any money and said they had very bad colds. (Washington) CAPTAIN ANSON - - Palace in 1. 17 minutes. Delivering a monologue written for him by George Cohan and doing a little dancing at the finish. Had a little stage fright when he took a flash at the apron, but he went after them with a stout heart and managed to land right side up. He closed to liberal applause. (Open) WILLIAM A BRADY'S "BEAUTY IS ONLY SKIN DEEP" - - 9 women. Special setting of interior of a Beauty Parlor. 38 minutes. Just one corking good sketch. Everything about the act is good. Was a hit from start to finish. (Cincinnati) WINONA WINTER - - Palace in 1. 15 minutes. This young lady has constantly improved for several years and I believe is doing a better act now than ever. Her singing, imitations and ventriloquial work were all very liberally applauded (Buffalo) ANDREW KELLY - - Street in 1. 12 minutes. I located Kelly in the audience after the McFarland girls started for Washington and put him in this spot for the night show and for the balance of the week. Was the only act handy, and while he does not quite fit into the picture, he went very well indeed at the night show and probably will hold the spot in good shape the rest of the week. The newspaper critics were all very kind to him and he seemed to thoroughly please the audience. (Providence) THOSE FRENCH GIRLS - - Garden in 4. 12 minutes. Just a mild sensation that's all. Their acrobatic work is excellent and they knew how to put that personality stuff over. The finish of the act where the girl goes up on the olio was a scream. (Open) PATHE'S WEEKLY
