REPORT on BOSTON SHOW for WEEK of OCTOBER 11th - 1915 (R. G. Larsen) PATHE NEWS 15 minutes in one. An interesting series of pictures, including some good pictures of artillery fire in Northern France. DANCING LA VARS 10 minutes f.s. Palace Set. Whirlwind dancers, introducing the cakewalk and other variations of the modern dance. Good, fast opener. MIDDLETON-SPELLMYER CO in "An Ocean Wooing" 13 minutes in one. Special Drops. This is another act that has played all the cheap priced houses in Boston, which did not help us any. It did not do very well, at the best. VAN BROTHERS 15 minutes in one. Special Drop. The old "Chinese money" act with some new lines. Would be all right in a bill of new acts. WILLIAM COURTLEIGH and CO in "Peaches" 27 minutes f.s. CDF. The revival of these acts do nothing more than spoil pleasant memories of past successes. Vaudeville is faster than it was when "Peaches" was first produced, and the actors were younger and had more personality. VIOLET DALE 19 minutes. Open and close in one, olio drop, going to music room and horizon in f.s. Miss Dale is a clever mimic and went very well. ALFRED BERGEN 16 minutes in one. Olio Drop. Baritone singer with woman pianist. Has some good numbers, and puts his songs over in good shape. SAM CHIP and MARY MARBLE in "The Clock Shop." 31 minutes f.s. Three special scenes. The best act Chip and Marble have had yet. Has a novel story, with all the characters as animated clocks, bright lines, all the dialogue being in rhyme, and the music is both high-class and catchy. A decided hit. HAWTHORNE and INGLISS 18 minutes in one. A couple of "nuts" with all manner of crazy stunts from parading the stage hands to singing "Blue Bell" and playing a flute that is out of tune. Held this spot with credit and went over big with the packed house. CALIFORNIA ORANGE PACKERS 14 minutes f.s. Special Set. Open with picture sheet in one, about two minutes. Good novelty that held the interest and closed strong. COMMENT: The first part of this show is slow, draggy and worn out. The latter part was good. It was a shame to spoil such a good show with so much of this old stuff bunched together.
