BIJOU THEATRE, WOONSOCKET, R.I. REPORT OF SHOW, MONDAY, APRIL 3, 1916. CHARLIE WILSON: 'NUT' COMEDIAN, 12 MIN. (1). He made a few, a very few of the audience laugh just once or twice during his entire turn. How great a thing to have the guidance, in a managerial capacity of a 'big time' house! Where one can see and enjoy a real 'single'. Scanning the volume of vaudeville's history one sees their names on every page, in letters of such glowing brilliance that Time itself can never hope to dim their lustre. But these 'small time' singles, with but few exceptions, have much to accomplish ere they can ever hope to be chronicled in vaudeville's Hall of Fame. JOHN ORREN & LILLIAN DREW: WHISTLING AND MIMICRY, 15 MIN. (1). Lady does some acceptable whistling, but the bulk of the turn falls to the man who is quite clever in mimicry of the same old kind. He does nothing new, albeit his repetition of what has gone before proves him an adept in his chosen line. IMPERIAL JUI JITSU TROUPE: 1 LADY, 6 MEN. 12 MIN. FULL STAGE. A truly wonderful exhibition of muscular strength, skill and agility, and their prowess in this fascinating art is almost uncanny. A harder-working troupe has never been seen here, and the act takes rank as being one of the most spectacular, sensational and truly brilliant features that has ever graced the annals of local theatricals. BIJOU THEATRE, WOONSOCKET, R. I. REPORT OF SHOW FOR THURSDAY, APRIL, 6, 1916. CONTINI: 8 MINUTES (1) He scrapes away on the violin while executing a few dances passably fair, and there was no great demonstration at the finish of the act. RICHARD STRAUSS & NELDA BECKER: 14 MINUTES (2) Man is exceptionally capable with the cornet, and does some creditable work with the 'cello. Lady helps materially with the saxaphone, and their efforts on cornet and saxaphone made a favorable impression on the audience. BERT SAVOY AND JAY BRENNAN: 12 MINUTES (1) SPECIAL DROP Their comedy produced roars of laughter on the part of the majority of the spectators, but there were many, like myself, who found it impossible to laugh at a style which Jim Russel of The Russel Bros. Made popular fifteen years ago, when he was making them laugh from coast to coast. We did our laughing then. [W. E. Parmenter] Mgr.
