REPORT ON PROVIDENCE SHOW, WEEK OF April 10, 1916 CHARLES LOVENBERG, Manager. For the closing week of the vaudeville season we have an exceptionally fine bill, among the best of the season, and the audience present at the first performance enjoyed it thoroughly. Among the acts, there is only one disappointment; that is, Roger Gray and Company who, while not at all bad, were not strong enough to hold the position allotted to them. HERBERT'S ANIMALS Very nice act of its kind, introducing dogs, cats, pigeons, and a rooster. Very lively and served in the opening position very well indeed. 10 Mins. Full Stage. ROGER GRAY & CO. These people have a good idea, and Mr. Gray himself is quite a capable comedian, but his material is not satisfactory and the rest of the company nothing to brag of. In order to give the best balance to the show, I put them in Number 2, but they are capable of holding a better position, although not strong enough for where I had them--next to closing. I don't think the act as it stands is worth the salary it is receiving. 20 Mins. IN One ROBERT HENRY HODGE in "BILL BLITHER'S LAWYER" This is Hodge's newest sketch and is not quite up to his old one. However, it is quite funny in spots, has some funny situations, and works out pretty well for this place on the bill. 25 Mins. Full Stage. EDNA SHOWALTER Miss Showalter proved herself a very capable vocalist, and originally placed in Number 2 spot did well enough to warrant moving her down. A very good bargain. 10 Mins. IN ONE PILCER & DOUGLAS While Miss Pilcer wears some very elaborate costumes, this is not, by any means, the important part of their act. They are both very good performers and plant their work in good shape. They went very well indeed. 20 Mins. In Two AL SHAYNE With his new partner, who is unadvertised. This is a corking good comedy act, fully capable of holding any spot on the bill. I have got him up this high because I wanted a strong comedy act at this point, but he is fully capable of holding position second to last. The only fault to be found with the act is its brevity. 12 Mins. In One. NURSERYLAND A splendidly mounted and presented singing and dancing act. A good novelty and good advertising feature. I closed the show with them Monday afternoon, but lost a good deal of the value of them that way, although they went very well indeed. 20 Mins. Full Stage Short Close In One. ROBERT EMMETT KEANE Mr. Keane is repeating his former success in this theatre with a very good act. 12 Mins. In One. PETTICOATS Closing the show is not an ideal position for this act, but they hold it. They had the audience in screams of laughter. I call it one of the best sketches we have ever played. 20 Mins. Full Stage. MOTION PICTURES O. K.
