H. T. JORDAN PHILADELPHIA SHOW MAY 1, 1916. SELIG TRIBUNE. 10 min. Fair pictures. HERMANN & SHIRLEY. 13 min. "The Mysterious Masquerader." A very good comedy novelty act by a man and woman. Man is an unusual contortionist and goes through a routine of remarkable stunts during the action of the skit. Did very well in the opening spot. LEW HAWKINS. 12 min. The veteran minstrel is using some new and old material and doing very well with it. Got a liberal amount of laughs and a good hand. SCHOOLER & DICKINSON. 19 min. Their piano and singing act, if anything, went better than on any of their previous visits. The young man scored a tremendous hit with his piano selections and the three numbers sung by the girl were warmly received. The act closed very strong. KETCHEM & CHEATEM. 13 min. Two men and a woman in a real comedy novelty, one of the man working from the audience and later going upon the stage to take part in the dialogue and singing. It is a surprise act and kept the audience amused at the start, but closed to a light hand. FRANKLYN ARDELL & CO. "The Wife Saver." 20 min. One of the breeziest farce sketches we have played in a long time and one of the biggest laugh-getters. It is a real oddity in the sketch line and played to the limit for laughs by Ardell. The audience was kept in a roar almost from start to finish and there were several curtains at the close. ROGER GRAY & CO. 19 min. Two men and two women use a lot of travesty bits for comedy purposes. They have some comedy songs which got over, but their material is old-fashioned and has been used by many other acts and done better. They got by with fair results. IRENE FRANKLIN & BURTON GREEN. 31 min. Following a very big reception, she sang five new songs and was forced to respond to numerous encores with one of her old ones. She was as big a hit this time as on any of her previous visits and one of the biggest applause hits we have had in many weeks. DOOLEY & RUGEL. 18 min. A very good singing and comedy talking act. The girl is an unusually good singer and the young man gets lots of laughs with his clean-cut comedy. In the next-to-closing position, they scored solidly. NICHOLAS-NELSON TROUPE. 8 min. Five men in a very showy exhibition of hoop-rolling, juggling and diabolo-throwing. They have a routine of good tricks and handled them in a showy manner. The act is nicely dressed and made a good closing number. GENERAL REMARKS. Ketchem & Cheatem and Roger Gray & Company failed to come up to expectations as comedy acts, but the rest of the bill held up in great shape and rounded out a very good entertainment with Miss Franklin and Franklyn Ardell & Company going especially well. CUTS LEW HAWKINS. Elimination of word "damn" also story having to do with "worms."
