H. T. JORDAN PHILADELPHIA SHOW JUNE 5, 1916. SELIG TRIBUNE PICTURES. 14 min. Fair. PIPIFAX & PANLO. 10 min. Two men in a comedy acrobatic turn on the old Rice and Prevost order. Good acrobatics and comedy and did well in the opening spot. SIDNEY & TOWNLEY. 11 min. Young man and woman in songs and dances. Some comedy is attempted with a medley dance in grotesque costume for their final number. Act went only fair and finished to light applause. MARCELLE & BEARS. 12 min. This was formerly known as Howard's Bears. There are three bears and several dogs and they are put through a routine of familiar tricks. The bears worked well but the dogs appeared cowed which hurt the act a lot. A tableau representing the bear in his wild state used for an opening does not make itself plain and the act went only fair. SOPHYE BARNARD. 13 min. Sang four songs, only one of which was popular. Her first two numbers are not particularly well suited to her, but after opening quietly, she picked up and finished strong. MR. & MRS. NORMAN PHILLIPS. 18 min. "Sweets to the Sweet." Comedy sketch by Marie and Frances Nordstrom. This is a broad farce with lots of action working up to a good climax and it received liberal applause at the finish. LEO BEERS. 17 min. A very clever and versatile entertainer. His whistling and piano numbers are especially well done. Some of his material is a bit snappy but he handles it carefully and gets good results. Was a big applause hit. TRULY SHATTUCK & MARTA GOLDEN. 18 min. They use a medley of songs with a lot of comedy talk injected and got a liberal amount of laughs. Miss Shattuck sings two straight numbers and Miss Golden one comedy number. They finish with a burlesque quarrel in song which brought them a good hand at the finish. BEN WELCH. 18 min. With about the same line of material used on former visits, he scored a laughing and applause hit, keeping the audience amused all the time he was on the stage and closing strong. HONEY BOY MINSTRELS. 17 min. Seven young men in an old-time first part, very nicely dressed. The boys are good singers and get a great deal out of their solo numbers of popular songs, the harmony being especially good. Some comedy is used by the end men and the act made a very good impression in a difficult position, closing the show. GENERAL REMARKS. A lot of singing and comedy held this bill up as a satisfactory entertainment for warm weather and it went over in good shape. CUT BEN WELCH. Elimination of reference to baby crying and the remark which follows.
